2012 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring
I wonder why Mazda does not indicate on the back of the CX-9's that it is a "Sport", "Touring" or "Grand Touring" model? It only says CX-9. It would be nice to see which model like other car company's

the model is "CX-9". the "Sport", "Touring", and "Grand Touring" are the trim levels.

I'm pretty sure he knows that.

While I'm aware of other vehicles that also don't present the viewer with the trim levels - I also noticed it was absent on the CX9. I think one of the reasons in this case is because there is no engine changes between the trims. Really, there is not a lot of difference between the base and GT models.

I also noticed that "AWD" was absent from the back of mine. They rectified that mid-run.

i find it rare that a manufacturer labels the trim level on the car. BMW does it, but not really. Audi doesn't. GM would have to manufacturer 800,000,000 different badges to correctly label their trim levels. no other mazda vehicles show trim level. honda used to, but not so much any more. i could go on. it seems superfluous to me to label the car with trim level. if you really want other to be impressed with what you are driving, why buy a mazda?

Understood, on another note, the 2012 cx-9 models only has a 20 gallon tank. SUV's of that class have a 22 gallon tank avg, I hope Mazda increases the fuel capacity in years to come because the 20 gallon empties quickly on highway driving.....

a 20 gallon tank should yield about 400 miles on the highway at the rated 22 mpg. (with some gas in reserve) that's a respectable range per tank for any car. by comparison, our 2008 mazda5 will only get about 350 miles running on the highway, and my 2001 protege will get 390-400 miles.

Sure they do. BMW does it by having the trim in the model #. Ie: 545i, etc. Audi does it by showing the engine displacement. Ie: 2.0T. What these european companies don't do often is to show something is a premium package, for example. But they certainly do show the model most of the time.

And GM... well.. they've always been a backwards company.

yeah, they show the model, not the trim level. the OP was basically asking for the trim level to be shown on the back. (or somewhere)

in audi's case, they do not show the trim level. you want an A4, all trim levels (premium, premium plus, etc.) get the 2.0T. different engine gets you a different model. the S4 and RS4 are different models, and both also have different trim levels.

When it comes to fuel tank, bigger is not always better.
Let's say that you got a 30 gallon tank, and I have a 20.
After every fill-up, you carry 30x4=120kg (roughly), and I only carry 20x4=80kg.
Your vehicle is always 40kgs heavier than mine. Whose MPG will win?
Not by much, I know, but small weights add up to 1mpg.

I think 20.1 gallon tank is average in the class (Pilot 21, Highlander 19.2, GM quadruplets 22).
