Used K&N drop in air filter

:
2003 Mazda Protege 5
Hey, just need some help, a guy is offering to sell me a used K&N drop in air filter (cleaned and oiled). Its been used for about 15000KM, is it worth to buy it used, he's offering to sell it to me for 25$...their are no holes rips etc, ive seen in person. Or should i go the fram way and get the Extra Guard for 25$

Just spend the extra 25 bucks and get a new k&n filter I wouldn't recommend buyin a used filter

I'm kinda skeptical still about the k&n's though, people are saying its bad for the mass airflow sensor and some are saying it isn't. Can I get any help on this please?

Personally, if you saw pics and it didn't look beat up, I'd go for it. Why pay 2x as much to get the same thing? It's a filter - not that much that can go wrong with it. Either it's in good shape or it isn't.

I would say to not get a used air filter because it's the only thing that keeps dirt from getting into the engine and damaging it. Why risk hurting your engine if you don't have too it's kinda like changing your oil but not the oil filter

It's a K&N...it's gonna let dirt get into the engine anyway. lol.

aFe makes a dry flow washable filter that doesn't get oiled. I don't see that they make a drop-in for our cars but they do have ones that would go on a SRI or CAI. I use an aFe drop-in in my Tacoma currently but am going to buy a cone one to go on the end of the K&N intake I have for the truck just because it is less steps and no s*** to buy to clean it. I have used both and neither are better than the other as far as performance, mpg or longevity. The aFe is just cheaper and easier to clean and dry IMO. It uses synthetic material not cotton. As far as the K&N in our cars, I have been running a cone on my ebay SRI for 7 yrs and have never had any issues with MAF or ever any dust in the intake tubes and I do check. Inside the intake tubes is fresh as they were brand new. IMO, you have to try pretty hard to **** up cleaning and re-oiling the K&N to give your vehicle a problem. The instructions are very clear. If this is an issue I wouldn't suggest modding anything else.

As far as buying a used one, why the hell not as long as it is in good shape? It isn't like wearing someone else's underwear for God's sake. It's just half the cost of the new one. WTF?
