On a 17" I would run a 215/45 but I also don't like to throw the odo and speedo way off. I wouldn't stray too far from the stock 16" P5 205 tire size.
Are you lowered and are you rolling the fenders? 17x8 +35 is going to be a nice fitment on a Protege.
are you trying to stance ur protege5? or just wanting some rims?
You will rub on the fenders without rolling them but possibly not if you go with a 205, all depends on how low you go. I know a few MSP guys run the Evo8 Enkeis that are 17x8 and I believe a +38 offset so very similar.
There is a difference, that's the height of the sidewall and I wouldn't run smaller than a 40 series tire. 45 is stock for the MP3,MSP and I believe the P5 16s are a 50 series tire.
