What have you done to your Miata today?

It adversely effects the handling because the spring rates of most if not all of the lowering springs aren't high enough to keep the car off the bumpstops.

Nothing can keep you off the OEM bumpstops. :D I'd say that it would depend on the drop for the FCM bumpstops and the size of the bumpstop.

Changing my bumpstops was probably the best modification I've made as far as comfort goes. That and setting my ride height properly :)

What suspension does the MSM have sub?

Tein SS coilovers, but I forgot the spring rate.

H&R Race with some Bilsteins are pretty nice actually. We aren't talking slammed to the ground so you drag your pinch welds over everything here.. Leave that crap to those slammed folks. I know a few cars with the H&Rs and really love them.

And that is why you get a set that are designed for the car. If you ever have problems, shoot emails or do some research. There is way too much info on the Miata and lots of different setups to list.

Done that too

now I miss my garage. . . . so this is how she dries off

and after the flooding rain we've had this past weekend, my trunk smells moldy. . . so damp rid went in, carpet comes out tonight, then i go to treasure coast miata for new trunk seals (after i confirm it's that and not the rain rail)

Mine is leaking into the trunk, it's coming from around the tail light gaskets... because they are gone x.x

Tein springs are terrible in this regard - at least the ones my first Miata came with. The other issue is that when the car is dropped, its roll couple changes, and the suspension springs lose mechanical advantage used to resist roll, so their rate must be increased further. It's nasty compounding effect. FM springs are great, I've had them on two Miatas, they stay off the bump stops well and balance the car very well IMO. FM lists their spring rates: Front springs: 318 lb/in and Rear springs: 233 lb/in, I wouldn't venture much softer than that. The ride is surprisingly nice too.

NB bump stops or fat cat bump stops?

FM bump stops to go with your FM springs!

mine's not the taillight (at least i don't think)

I'm finding water in the spare tire, which then leaks down to the carpet

and sadly, my car HAD FM springs (found a picture of it in the stack of paperwork that came with the car). . . .. but previous owner thought they were too stiff, so i bought the car at 4x4 height

That's a bummer. The FM setup is recommended a lot on M.net.

Bingo... don't buy crap springs lol

Word. On a Miata, for the money there are better options than lowering springs IMO.

Nah, Megan EZ Street ;)

Quite true, however it was a struggle enough to even convince myself to buy springs. The H&R Race springs aren't that much of a drop (0.75" IIRC) and the spring rates are on the rather stiff side. I've not had bumpstop issues.

nice wheels, me likey. ASAs?

Thanks, yep they're ASA's. I admit they look sharp. I only bought the car last week and can't take credit for any of the mods. Got drilled rotors, sport shocks, strut brace, K&N CAI, new battery, new roof 2 years ago, new tires, new plugs and wires, synthetic oil, 2 tonneau covers (one of which is color matched), got a chrome gas cover, new power antenna, 2 amps in the trunk, 2 8 in subs, roll bar, wind blocker, leather seat covers, tons of chrome trims bits, sport pedals, aluminum shift knob, and a collectors dust cover. Never smoked in, no accidents. Original 2 owners babied it, both added only 5-6 K (kms) per year, never seen winter. It has 70,000 kms on it. I'm pretty happy. Just ordered a leather and chrome shift knob from Moss Motors today and a new centre armrest also from Morris.

I could only find 320F/275R for the rates which for less than an inch of a drop wouldn't be bad at all except the rear is a little too high compared to the front IMO.

You have H&R springs Phen?

I brought my wife and kids to where I have the car stored. Here is a clip of the unveiling. The guy hauling the cover off is the man I bought the car from.
