My main thought behind this thread is to have a place to keep some of the most memorable stories from the corrals. Anyone who has attended one of these knows that stories are easily made at one of these events... and normally if you hang around veterans of the event, they'll even tell you stories of events past. So... tell your stories!

I'd also like to use this as a way to convince others to attend. Once they read some of these stories, how can they resist?

One from this year:

Bosch 250 @ VIR, after the race. 2011

While sitting at Aunt Millie's Pizza Subs & Suds near the track, Tom was telling us stories of his early days as a JAG, being stationed in California. While talking about this, he mentioned a ship graveyard that he was on watch at. Marlon threw out the name of the town where it was located (I can't remember the name). All of a sudden, out of the blue (and a bit loud), Tom blurts out "Yeah, Vallejo bitches..." Don't ask me why, but it was one of the funniest damn things we had heard, and it proceeded to become a common phrase this year at all of the corrals. You'll commonly hear one of us that was at the race saying it from time to time. This is where it came from.

my most memorable ~ Lime Rock Park 2009 when Charlie Putnam came to the corral and serenaded us with his guitar. he played and sang 2 songs that he had written and we were all in awe. i'm STILL waiting on the CD!!

Charlie and his wife Diane have become friends of Marlon and I and the whole corral since we've been doing this going back to 2007. He used to drive a Mazda 6 with Tindol Motorsports and has since ventured into the BMW world, now co-driving the #48 Fall Line Motorsports BMW with Charles Espenlaub. (they won the Driver's Champ in 2010!!)

Great people and just a few of the GREAT friends we've made through the years ...

My first corral. I knew most of the team, but didn't do a whole lot to contribute. The giveaways and awesome meet and greets got me hooked.

Hanging out at the SpeedSource Trailer during the autograph session. Justine and I had a table set up selling t-shirts for charity. It was cool because it felt as if we were part of the Speedsource team, not spectators. The whole corral atmosphere is set up so you become a PARTICPANT; not just a bystander.

Greg Stamper. One of the funniest/nicest guys I've met. Cleaning up all the food after the race, he saw an unopened gallon jar of ranch dressing. He screams "Holy Sh........(looks around to see if any kids are around)........it! That's a lot of ranch dressing! I'm pretty sure he took it home with him...

Falling asleep and missing the end of the race. Being woken up by Greg taking this picture:

*If you haven't traveled out of state to go to a corral, you are missing not just a day at the races, but an entire adventure of staying in a hotel, going out to dinner, etc. It was a lot to handle in just two days, but worth every second!

Liquid Apple Pie. Levi tasted it, teared up, and hugged me. It was a special moment. Then I tasted his Mountain Dew vodka and did the same.

Meeting the NEPOC crew. Can't wait to go to their turf in Lime Rock next year!

The whole camping crew was awesome. BEAR GRYLLS lol. But overall it was a fun trip and really lookin forward for the years to come with the mazda family!

or Marlon reminded me of this one:

someone asked Fez this year where we were staying while at Lime Rock Park ... his answer: "i don't know, somewhere on brokeback mountain road" (it's actually undermountain road, but he was close enough, i guess) lol

(cheers2)memorable moment #1: Fez chasing two young ladies up the LRP entrance road slightly inebriated!

I have a memorable moment from The Mitty involving Phen and meatballs, but I won't go further out of respect for the tender sensibilities of others.

"sir, you want some sauce with those meatballs?"

Oh the meatballs... Those who witnessed that have officially seen me in the worst condition ever. I'm still embarrassed by that.

Good old Petit LeMans... just glad I wasn't the only one sleeping during the GT3 race... Hahaha.

C'mon guys, there are many more stories out there! I can go on and on forever about different events.

My first corral was at Mid-Ohio (it was 2007 or 08). I was impressed by the flexibility and positive attitude everyone showed, we were supposed to have space in the infield but the track had us outside (at that point in time I don't think they regarded Mazdas as a real group). That didn't matter, it was taken in stride. I had a great time. I regret not being able to make it to this year's event but my wife, stepdaughter and a friend went and they enjoyed themselves (none of them are car people so that says volumes). If you have any feelings for things automotive, you owe it to yourself to attend at least one corral event.

Love it...Great idea for a thread in the new Corral section! (2thumbs)

I'm looking forward to attending someday and now I know what to expect! :p
