2012+ Mazda5 Rear Hatch Spoiler

:
2012 Mazda5 Sport AT
Unlike the 2006-2010 Mazda5, the 2012+ redesigned Mazda5 does not have a hatch-integrated rear spoiler. That means you can easily add one if, like me, you purchased the Sport trim that doesn't come with one. I don't have a good picture of my own but I found this on Edmunds to give you an idea of what it looks like:

You can see how the spoiler attaches to the top of the rear hatch. There are already several companies that have spoilers ready to purchase and install. I may go for it on mine; I regret not stepping up to the Touring since the main reason for getting a Sport is the manual transmission, which I didn't get.

I can take some pictures of mine if you want. As much as I like the manual tranny and all of our cars are manual, we needed an auto, thus that is what we got on the 5.

We actually shopped the sport model first, but the price difference locally on getting 17" wheels, foglights, side skirts/spoilers were negligble between sport vs touring around here, so I ended up with Touring, which I love.

Having owned Mazdas since 1991, often times it adds up if you want to add the body parts later, thus I like getting it from the factory.

If you go aftermarket, let me know how it ends up.

Here are two pics of mine I took for you (disregard the dirty new car)

This is another reason why I went with GT instead of Sport or Touring. If you wind up adding upgrade addition which are included on the GT and not the base model, you might as well have went for the GT instead. I'm like you, I would love to have gotten the manual also as pretty much all cars that I've owned in the past were standard. But, it is no longer practical because my wife does not drive stick and sometimes, she need to take the M5, instead of the CX-9. Maybe in a few years, I'll get me a nice used Boxter or Z3 as a weekend car.

Bit tougher to add a 6MT to the GT than side skirts, spoiler, bluetooth and sat radio to a Sport ;)
Unless the rear spoiler keeps a lot more grime off the rear window (or improves the cd, which it may do a bit) I wouldn't buy one. Doesn't improve the looks at all IMO.

That's so true. But it's becoming harder and harder to find MT on SUV's and Minivan these days. But as much as I like the manual tranny, I also like the GT's auto, I got used to it already. Less stress now that I have a shorter commute with getting stuck in traffic more often.
