Project Black has Begun! - Colorado

Yeah, it does look ricey w that HUGE CANNON! haha

And if you can get some videos posted let us know!

Thanks!

Well, hopefully you can hear it well. I thought this came out pretty good for sound quality. I like video stuff too, so I dressed it up a little! LOL!

Thanks! The video gives a pretty good idea, I am hoping to keep cabin noise the same as stock while cruising, but under load and what the exterior sound is really isn't to big a priority for me. I also want something that will give a good gain, but I supose that is obvious. I was looking at the Racing Beat, but it is a little out of budget right now. I was thinking of maybe deleting the second cat? Any thoughts?

There is only one cat, and one resonator on the stock exhaust. A resonator will also come on a cat back system usually. From what you are saying about cabin noise, you definitely want the resonator. I'm really not sure what happens when you remove the cat.

LOL! Earlier, I made my wife drive the car to go pick up our daughter...

There is still nothing fast about the car, but she is furious!! LOL. Not really, but she does hate it. She likes driving the Caddy cause it's smooth like butta, and she has a negative amount of interest in performance mods!!

^ lmao, women just dont understand... :/

but anyway THANKS! for taking the time to make the video!

It does sound a bit ricey, but i think its because the vid was a bit distorted, nd the cabin noise wasnt tooo bad.

overall: im starting to look for diff exhaust ideas now lol. Idk, should i just get headers and a muffler? and which 1? lol

since mynes throwin these 2 codes:

p0421 bank ignition
p0421 catalyst

not sure how to fix that..?

An aftermarket header attributes to most of the ricey sound in the exhaust...

Sorry I can't help with the codes, but definetely go with a header, there is a catalytic converter in the stock header to help with cold start emissions but it really isn't neccessary. Just like Black I went with the OBX 4-1, its a fair price and gives noticable gains and I have herd that when paired with a Racing Beat cat back it's very nice, both in performance and sound (not ricey at all!). That would be my suggestion. Keep us posted ;)

Codes are pretty easy to erase as long as you are sure the problem is taken care of. I have the P0421 code stating "warm up catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 1". It is one of the sensors (bank 1) that I transferred from the stock mani to the OBX header. Not an issue that effects the driveability. I was able to borrow the code reader from an O'Rielly's and just erase the code after I fixed it.

Thanks man, ill do some research on that setup.

& Thats the same code my car is showing right now/w stock exhaust and all
P0421 code stating "warm up catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 1".

Hmm, i thought it wouldnt throw a code w getting the header in..

Anyways, IF I were to get a OBX header and Racing Beat catback... would i still have a code like Proj.Balck 's ?

And how much perf. gain woild it do? (i know it wouldnt be much.. but curious if any1 has any #'s to share)

THANKS GUYS!
(sry to thread jack..kind of, lol)

As far as the code is concerned, I think I probably tweaked one of the sensor wires a little and need to replace it. However, it really doesn't effect driveability.

I have to say that your gain would be noteable. I think it's usually around 5-7 or more HP if you do a full header, high flow cat, and cat back exhaust. It really opens up better at higher RPM's. I got a great gain out of adding the full Megan exhaust. However, with the RB set up, you will not gain as much rice! LOL! It's really not that bad inside the cabin with the Megan, but the RB does sound better in my opinion. It's too late for me though!

COMPARISON: Megan vs RBeat

yet i still like the sound of the megan: like this guys ,top end seems nicer, more noticeable ,while RB is more shy at top end

idk, the Racing Beat just doesnt seem like it hits the same..At top end..just gives up lol, but lowr rpm is nice

Be careful when deciding from these videos. The second one down sounds like its the only one with a header. That set up still sounds pretty loud to me and that is RB as well.

azuelke meantioned above that the header is what adds most of the raspyness. I don't think you are going to avoid much noise unless you ditch the header.

I think I'll save up fpr the racing beat, for the extra money your still getting a nice exhaust and not pissing off the neighbours. It still sounds nice to me, and best part is no rice lol

Not sure if this is the code that is of concern, but did you do the non-fouler trick? If not, that may be the problem. If you did, I'm out of ideas.

A 4-2-1 header might produce less of this problem, I'm not sure. But the 4-2-1 headers that are made for the P5 are not cheap.
