Hey buddy, cool thread. I do pull away from them miatas. http://advanced-autosports.com/ rents them miatas out year after year, they have a full cage with nothing done to the motors, just exhaust and intakes. The P5 with corner weighting and some small suspension work handles pretty closely with the miatas. So with those two advantages I can lap the miatas. I have to find a way to post up some pics. The car looks a bit diff than in the half-fast site now. Any way with third gear working now I post up some better videos too.

I found this video in a local cats thread (sm76) of member "iracemine"'s P5. You can skip forward to about 3:50 in the video. But good stuff while it lasts. I hope someday my P5 will be a track car...

I wet sanded the clearcoat blemishes from my ASA's and got them ready for spray paint. Got the Parada's mounted today and picked them up after work. Damn these wheels are heavy. I'll have to weigh them compared to the RPF1's. But they do look damn good. Can't wait to get them painted. I would paint them at work this weekend (the paint fumes are too much for my basement and the shop during the week) but my room mate and I are hosting a Mazda BBQ. Should be a lot of fun though. And I keep waiting for it to get a bit warmer outside so I can finally finish my CF hood. The shop is 65degrees during the day but cools off after I clock out. Hopefully next week I'll get it cleared and finished. i just don't want to botch the clearcoat with impatience.

ASA's 17's weigh around 21 lbs 18's 23 lbs

The one thing to keep in mind with spec Miatas are that they're stock drivetrain... so... you're talking 130 hp at the crank. They may be lighter, they may handle great, but any car with any reasonable number of mods will keep up with one. Not necessarily a good baseline to stand behind...

I guess if I would have seen your post, mine wouldn't have really mattered much...

yeah... and that 6th gear doesn't get you s***. it's actually shorter than the 5 speeds. Trust me, I went from a 6 speed in my MSM to a 5 speed when the 6er s*** the bed.

Alright... back to your regularly scheduled build thread.

Phen picked up some 18" MB's and we slapped them on for s**** and giggles a week ago. They looked damn good, but I don't think I would run anything bigger than a 17" on a Protege. But that colour does look really good on Sunlight Silver. And they might be for sale if anyone is interested.

My ASA's are being painted black right now drying in the garage. It's supposed to be warm-ish this week and I want to get my bloody winter tires off so I can corner again. heh-heh.

Ya know, they look big, but not as big as some 18's look on the Proteges. It must be the not-as-small sidewall.

i like the rims. i just dont like them on the car if you had bigger brakes like the mazda speed 6 brakes i think it would look good

Yeah... the brakes look like CD's behind larger wheels. One big reason I don't dig 18's on 3G's.

Yeah, Ryan. Lots of rust from this winter. I've got Bondo, paint, clearcoat and a paint gun ready for repair but it hasn't been warm enough for painting yet. Stoopid Ohio winters... heh-heh.

I did that last year and the rust is already showing through, this year I'm going to try some POR-15.

Jon, I will probably bring my car to work sometime when it warms up. We have a clean and empty warehouse next door with the big boy air compressor. I'm sure my boss would be fine with us re-spraying our cars in there. I know I want to remove the rear hatch and completely re-spray it. And I've been contemplating just respraying the whole car the same silver but with paint from Summit Racing. But it still aint cheap. But at least it will be a better job from Maaco.

Cheese, I tried some POR15 on my drivers door last fall and it worked great. I would highly recommend it. I'm going to POR15 my whole bloody car before the body work happens.

Excellent! Did you get the starter kit? I'm wondering how much coverage you get out of that thing.

My friend bought the starter kit and let me try some. He had good results on his P5 too. I just used a little bit, like a teaspoon, on that door and it sealed the rust and stopped it from spreading. Of course, you have to clean all the loose stuff off and prep it really well, then "paint" it with the Por-15 and it stops the rust from spreading. I haven't gotten into researching it enough yet but I saw it in Summits catalog. I'll do more research and will keep this thread updated with it's results and such.
