Ive been playing with the idea of whether or not to go turbo for the past few weeks and I've decided to move it from not likely to maybe just possibly... I started doing resaerch and was told by my borther in law that something alot of honda guys do is just buy the cheap turbo kits off of ebay and then just upgrade pices like the actual turbo as they go, what do yal think? it says it brings everything except for the mani and down pipe.

You're motor is the most important part of your car, so don't just slap on the cheapest turbo kit you can find. Putting on a bunch of generic parts increases the risk of blowing your motor up significantly, as don't forget the FS-DE is known to pop at low boost levels. If you want to go turbo, I'd suggest putting together a Mazdaspeed setup as its your best bet to have an easy install and to make your car run somewhat normally.

NO EBAY! You can either piece together, or get a complete MSP setup from the FS for around $700 for everything, possibly cheaper.

I think some guys on here run the ebay FMI, but yeah, go an MSP setup for ~$700. Some guys let them go for $500 if you look hard and reply quick enough. You gonna have to buy an ECU anyhow, and I think a lot of those ebay kits require a solid amount of trimming and elbow grease to get them in. Get something made for this car from factory.

yea thats what imma end up doing haha, time to make a wtb thread so I can start piecing things together

People say no Ebay turbo kits, I've done 2 and have had nothing but success. The problem I find with a lot of people is they try to shove to much boost into something that isn't made to take it. I'm running 7psi on a Lexus IS300 right now and it runs great. Just make sure you run safe in any turbo setup, know what your car is made to handle. Doesn't matter the brand, you can blow things up at any price range. Do the research into the product, find some reviews from people that have actually used it, and make sure you understand the turbo setup first.
With some Ebay turbos it's the difference between an Edhardy Tshirt and a Walmart Tshirt. The only difference is the name on the tag, because of this, they can charge 3 times more.
One thing I definately didn't skimp on though is the aftermarket ECU, I wanted to ensure that my car was tuned properly.

which ecu did you get?
i heard 8psi is the safe zone for p5's so do you think the ebay kits would support 8? whats the max psi, would you guess?

Mate,
you'll not believe,
I am running ebay massive t03/04 turbo on 11 PSI on stock internals.

And its just driving fine with absolutely no problem.
Eveything lies in the tune.
I recommend you to get a goood tuner.

Your IS has a MUCH stronger engine than the FS (in case anyone reading this thread doesn't know it)

You pay for what you get, and the FS is a sensitive engine. If you don't go with a proven turbo kit you are taking your chances.

+1 serious words of wisdom for potential ebay buyers....

And just for some quick info the guy above with the "massive" turbo on 11 psi put up a thread a few months ago saying his was smoking just saying. I use quotations because I consider a massive turbo the twin t6 turbos I saw online for a rb25. And also the t56 turbo my brothers friend is building a camaro with. I'm sure anyone on here knows that 11psi on stock internals with cheap turbo kit is a rolling time bomb with the fsde
