Going to replace my pads with some Hawks in the future and I need a set of OE style rotors to replace the stockers. Am I better buying an aftermarket set or another set of the stock rotors? Brand names you could suggest will help. They have to remain OE style for my racing class.

I would just stick with stock...they are damn near bullet proof in construction...other wise go with Brembo OE replacments..which is probably what we have anyhow. My friend tracks the shyt out of his car and the only thing we've had to replace is the pads...he's still on his origional set of rotors but 3rd set of pads..and he uses Hawk HPS.

Threadjack!
Sooo.... disc wear is even inner and outer??

I ask, cuz several ,peeps have said my wear pattern is normal
which means the design is s***, as opposed to an issue with my calipers in particular

Bumping this up, because I am looking at purchasing new rotors as well. I am leery of buying anything from an autoparts store for fear that it will be for the regular 3 and not the MS3. Does anyone know if the rotors from RockAuto or even NAPA or autozone legit? Or is it best to go through the dealer? From what I can tell price wise, OEM rotors are a little pricey, making stoptech OE rotors almost a better deal. Or am I crazy?

I just picked up a set of Centric Premium blanks from KNSBrakes, great price and as good as OEM. Rotors + Pads (Hawk HPS) + shipping was less than 400 out the door.

the Hawk pad (and most aftermarket performance pads) are more aggressive than the OEM pads. therefore you may encounter slight scarring, grooving pattern on plain OEM rotors. if you are keeping your OEM rotors it is recommended you turn (resurface) them. properly bed-in will also help reduce this effect.

another alternative is to get a slotted/slotted+drilled rotor. the slots will cut an even surface on the pad every time and significantly reduce any scarring or grooving on the disc rotor.

i have Hawk HPS pads on front and rear. the Front has EBC slotted/dimpled rotors and the Rear has the OEM rotor. the fronts are smooth and even while the rear rotor has been resurfaced but still produces a lot of grooves and scars. i have a new set of rear disc rotors ready to go in the next brake change.

check out tri-point engineering's subforum for a pad and rotor sale which i believe is still going on. the StopTech rotors come in slotted and slotted/drilled. they're a good a brand as any. Powerslot, StopTech, are owned by Centric parts. Centric makes OEM replacements under their own label, but Powerslot and StopTech are their performance labels. Other brands you can check out are DBA (Disc Brake Australia), EBC, Rotora. I don't know if Brembo makes a slotted OEM replacement.

Thanks guys! I will be getting NEW rotors, but I was hoping to keep OEM style. Slotted wouldn't be too bad either, but I am trying to keep costs to an absolute minimum. I've got a hookup on Hawk or Cobalt Friction pads, or may use my other hookup with EBC Reds. I'm more concerned about finding rotors on the cheap. It is good to know that the plain OE Centric rotors are legit, as well as their performance counterparts. I will evaluate both and make a decision. Thank you.

Any other thoughts, findings, and opinions would be greatly appreciated. I won't be buying these for a little while yet, so I have plenty of time to think and research.

Chippy, give Jay Anderw a call, he will advise as to what you need for your specific needs, as he knows brakes and brake products. I don't know if you have met him this past weekend @ Mid-Oio, but he was conductiong al of the classes @ NASA,( he is a two time AI National Champ). He is local here in Ohio and is a HAWK Dealer and will save you lots of money.

^^^my hookup, right there^^^

Thanks Marlon, I might shoot him an email first and see what he has to say. I'm in no rush for these brakes now that I have months until the next track day!
