Engine Gets Sluggish @ 3000 rpm's

I believe there are a couple of SSAFC's for sale right now on the forum. It's better to be tuned than untuned, even if you don't have a lot of mods and you won't pay 600 bucks for that..lol

Am i looking for a Split Second PSC1?? Was looking on the fourm sales and most items listed as SSAFC's are the Split Second PSC1

They are one in the same. Version 2 is best but 1 will work. You also need a wideband gauge for tuning with your laptop.

Even on the stock tune your car should not run like you described in your updated post. I'd get a boost gauge on it before messing with the AF trims. SSAFCs pop up all of the time and they will always be available new from Ken at protegegarage.com as he is the only authorized vendor of them.

Sounds like a plan. I will be working on my car next weekend, so will look to do it then.

The car dumps too much fuel when it hits boost which causes the hesitation as well as bad spark tables in the stock ECU from 3-4k rpm. I made a fuel pressure reduction kit like Joe P used to make and it made a huge difference on my mostly stock MSP.
The trunk clunk is the rear swaybar bushings.

Could you provide a How-To on that, or any additional info? I have not seen this thread by Joe P. Will have a look around for it.

OK...... SO I AM AN IDIOT (sort of)!!!

Alright... so I thought I had a stock MSP because Ive never seen a Stock MSP engine. I thought the enhancements in it were from it being a "Mazdaspeed", but after reading the fourms awhile, I have come to see that i do not have a stock engine.

The only problem now.... i dunno what the heck i have... I took some pics of the engine. Have a look and see what you can see cause I am clueless!

stock motor, stock intercooler with hardpipes, cold pipe has a blocked off BOV flange and is running the stock BPV and of course a CAI. Everything else appears to be stock
Don't know what rims those are, they don't appear to be stock either

would any of this shed any light on the issue im seeing? Rims are Mazda, just painted black... real crappy paint job, on my TODO list

Rims are from an 02.5 or newer protege ES or P5. Slap a bov on the coldpipe, relocate the MAF, add a vacuum block and upgrade to a bigger side mount.

You should go to your area forum on here and put a post up asking someone to come take a looksie. Chances are theres someone with knowledge that will be able to tell you your problem.

I just bought the same year protege, and im having the same problem. The car hesitates and acts like it has a dead miss. Kinda bucks and levels out after letting off the gas. It has a CEL reading that it runs rich. It's my first turbo car and im kinda baffled to be honest. Ive always been a chevy v-8 guy. It has an AEM cold air, catback, i think an aftermarket intercooler, and the turbo sounds healthy but is quite noticeable dunno if its stock or not. so would a tune suffice to fix the problem? or will i need an EMS?

its hard to diagnose these problems over the internet, it sucks. it could be a number of things and i would hate to tell you to go out and get a $300 or whatever price ems and find out that the tune wasn't the problem. And in order to tune you need a ems...

I know what you mean. its worth a shot though. I'm just not used to even having a computer. :) never owned anything newer than an 88 chevy and the all went straight to carbuetion. just a new animal. oh and it doesnt help that the dealership put low grade fuel in it..... could that cause any major problems?

YES! drain it out or put something like octane booster in it or fill it up with premium (93 if you can) if you have room in there. Always use premium in this car.

I've never had a turbo car and i even still know that lmao! iI just dont know what kind of problems it will cause...so if you could shed some light? I flipped on them when they told me it was my driving that was doing it to the car...when they dont even know what octane gas to put in. Some peoples kids i tell ya. How would CAM2 fair? ive got some at home. so could that be my whole problem?
