hey all. my question: has anyone put the kumho Ecsta asx 225/45 r18 on their stock wheels/susp? if so, how did it work out for you?

i've searched all the forums about tire fitment, and it seems some of you are getting away with 225/45 on stock rims and suspension and some of you are having rubbing issues.. it seems to be tire specific. hence my need to start this thread.

i like the idea of wider tires, but i drive down some crazy dirt roads to go climbing, so i don't want to go with a 40 series. i like that the 45 series protects my rims a bit better and doesn't make me any lower... i know the slamming crew thinks i'm nuts, but the car has to be somewhat practical too.

thanks.

Yes, it will rub the plastic fender liner a little bit in the back. You can cut the liner a bit and it will clear, or live with it. I ran same size, but I had Ecsta SPT's.

That's cause the OD of the 245/40-18 is 25.7" and the 225/45-18 is 25.9".... the 225 is actually .2" inches larger (.1" larger radius... which is about all that rubs really)

.1" isn't much once the tire is mounted and rolling, 245/40 is so much wider than 225/45's. My 245/40's are closer to the fender than 225/45's.

thanks for the info!
if i cut the fender liner will i invite rust? do you mean the outer wheel well wall when you say fender liner? new terms to me..
also, did it rub all the time or just when driven hard or loaded down?

thanks for your help so far destrux.

i have 225/45 on my stock wheels and im lowered on eibach prokit and i have no rubbing issues at all...so yes these will fit without a problem

do you like how the 225/45 handle? i'd imagine it would depend on the tire, but i've seen a post or two saying it gets squirrely..

what size rims do you have tho'? if they're wider, the sidewall height will be a bit lower.. thanks for the reply too!
