Took the '88 Audi 80 Quattro to an Audi mechanic in Gloucester Friday morning. BEST MECHANIC EVER. Seriously. This was like the automotive service dream. He took the car for a drive with me in the passenger seat, looked over everything, was genuinely excited to see "the classic", called the car a virgin because it had a bunch of original parts on, etc. Got a really good lookover. He said he wouldn't hesitate to drive a 1000 mile roadtrip on the car right now. Car looks really good for its age. No headgasket issue. Had a few suggested replacement items, that's about it. Small oil leaks in valve cover, but he actually suggested against replacing the valve cover gasket, because the damn things start sweating about a year after replacement anyway.
So very happy that the car is solid.
