'11 Mazdaspeed 3 Sport Black Mica
Noticed the IAG thread when I just entered. Great shop there!

Anyways, bought an '11 Black Mica over the weekend w/o Tech package. 1 mile on the odometer(dance) and this is how I got there....

My '05 Subaru Legacy GT traded in for an '08 CX-7 because of the arrival of our daughter. I then took my wife's '04 IS300 which we traded in over the weekend for the Mazdaspeed. I know, I traded a nice car but that IS was auto and very boring to drive. I couldn't live without a manual. Somehow I tricked my wife into thinking this was a family car(sssh)

I look forward to both reading and posting here. Thanks!

welcome. check out the MD section, there are a few of us nearby.

Bought in Frederick. Now I just have to figure out what voids the factory warranty. I would really like to get rid of that second cat. Converter.

They'll tell you anything voids the warranty. Change the valve stem caps and then take it to the dealer...they would probably tell you your wheel will fall off! Welcome and enjoy the fun car. I actually bought it because it is fun and I will someday soon be starting a family. I do believe it is perfect for that!

Fart in your car during the break-in period and you void the powertrain. True story.

Remember the user Iona Mazda? Poor guy rolled into the dealer sipping on a giant cup of Taco Bell's Baja Blast. I won't mention the things they did to him there for having beverage in his vehicle. RIP

One user here had a cx7 for his wife and an ms3 for himself. When he put a drop-in k&n in the cx7 the dealer voided his entire ms3 warranty and mazda north america ran a train on his wife using 5w40 so she wouldn't start smoking

Great, I hope history doesn't repeat itself seeing we also have CX-7. Cobb access port deletes cpu memory when reset to stock, I think. I guess that may be my only HP add on.

What is a sufficient break in period. I always bought used before so I am no longer familiar with the "break in". May not matter since I probably already voided my baby already voided warranty.

Yeesh...all these questions have the possibility of awakening soooo many arguments on here

What I believe (and this is just my opinion after having learned from my dads experience, and going to UTI) is that every car has some sort of break in requirement. Actually, every engine and driving component

For me it was the same as my other cars: no heavy loads, no racing of the engine, varied speeds, no heavy accelleration, light varried braking, oil change after 1000miles. It even states some of these in the owners manual

Now whether or not the factory does something to break in is unbeknownst to me. I know that before chrysler released their durangos off the assembly line they started and revved the s*** out of the engine. If it lived it went on, if not it would get recycled back in and fixed

Its mostly for a good seal on the piston rings, which could very well be achieved on first startup. But I know racing engines that get broken in on an engine dyno before going onto the car

Do the things to the car that are easy to return to stock: An air intake, bpv/bov in recirculation, test pipe, top mount intercooler, plus a tune for Cobb AP...Heck, just a Cobb SRI with a Cobb AP tuned for that specific map would be a nice boost--add a forge bpv for the cool 'ping!' and you'd be set! And it could be returned to stock in an hour. I'd say easily 20-30 whp
