What have you done to your MSP today?

But I did it so I could run BOV only, and whenever I took off the BPV I got turkey.

i had the turkey at first all the time, but it was my fault, the BOV had 2 springs in it so it was simply not opening-->thus turkey.

I took the stronger spring out, adjusted the bov, and now everything is in proper order. (you can still hear the turkey sometimes, when i let off at like no boost at all--> not enough pressure to open the bov)

and yeah, relocate the MAF, world of difference, no stalling, steady idle and simply moves it out of the way.

Tried to install my crank pulley this morning as I had all day to finish my car and get it driving and it wouldn't fit. The timing mark on the timing cover I bought from rockauto.com was too close and didn't have enough clearance for the teeth on the crankshaft pulley. I didn't want to cut it so i'm going to try to return it and go to Mazda in the morning and get the proper one. Does the MSP have a larger crank pulley or do the older FS-DEs have a smaller crank pulley or did Dorman (the maker of the part) just completely miss the boat?

how hard is it to get to the crank pulley and remove it? i have a lighter weight o.e. style one but not sure what all it involves to install the new one

Same crank pulley on all FS-DE's, as far as I know.

Im thinking of parting my msp out..... I think I want to go back to stock and then buy a fast car. I have my eye on a few V8 Rx7s. Just a thought now and it will probably pass by morning haha.

It's relatively easy just jack the car up, remove the passenger side front wheel, remove the splash guard and get an impact wrench with a 13/16 socket and break that sucker loose. Then loosen and remove the belts and I used a pulley remover tool (rented from autozone) that threads into the hole in the center of the pulley but before I could get the thing fully on and tighten it the pulley fell right off so i'm not sure if it is necessary. The instructions that came with my timing belt kit said to torque the crankshaft pulley bolt to 115-125 lb.ft.

Hmm, I suppose it just doesn't fit, I would assume it has to fit on some car. Cross referencing the part number on rockauto says it should fit all proteges and MX-6s and 626s with the 2.0L. I need to call them to correct it, unless my car is special and has an incorrect crank pulley on it. I know for a fact it's the stock crank pulley I know what they look like.

Details of the situation would help, because I'm not sure I understand what you're doing. Are you installing an aftermarket pulley? Or are you installing a stock pulley? If so, whats wrong with your current crank pulley? Why do you need a new timing cover? (shrug)

I always think about parting with my car, but can never bring myself to do it. I have decided I'm going to build mine into a full-on auto-x car starting next year.

Then I am going to build a full blown race car to do track days with. I already have an AE86 shell, so I'll probably do the race build on that. SR20 powered most likely.

I think those who can sell their MSP's have a much stronger will than most. I've come across the decision to sell my MSP quite a number of times but when it all boils down to it... I just can't.

I found a hole in my lower timing cover while replacing my belts and since my car is at 91k miles anyway and has the original timing belt I bought a new timing cover, water pump, timing belt kit and vc gasket from rockauto. I replaced the belt and water pump and after getting the cover on and tightened down the crank pulley wouldn't fit, the teeth interfere with the timing mark that sticks out off the cover. I measured the distance from the crank opening to the bottom of the timing mark and the stock cover has 4.5 cm clearance while the Dorman brand one I bought has 3.9 cm. I'm headed to the closest dealership now and I really hope they have one in stock, i'm having boost withdrawals.

I am almost full bolt on. If I installed my steedspeed manifold I would be. And it makes me mad that my car is still only a 14 second car when all my other friends drive cars that are insanely fast. the slowest one is a low 12s car. and the fastest is a 10 second vette that is DD. I just want to put the mazda back to stock and then buy a V8 rx7 that will run mid to low 11s on motor.

13/16? why use an SAE socket size on a japenese engine....its a 21mm

Dealership said they should have the lower timing cover in by 5 today, it cost more than both covers that I already have combined.

My new impact wrench only has SAE sockets and my largest metric socket is a 19mm, it fit fine and didn't leave any marks on the bolt but thanks for the info.

Don't do it. Just buy a 323 make it AWD/turbo'ed and then woop thir assses :)

It would never be as reliable as a LS1. I have made my self a promise If i ever sell the msp and I get another car to mod it will be a v8 NA. I get tired of the hassle with turbo cars. They just seem like they are so temperamental. If I do get a v8 7 Ill never sell the msp I love it way to much to do that.

i'm not a rally driver so AWD seemed pointless to me, plus i already have a project car
