The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

that's why we wouldn't build a mainstream car

$500 i think. i found another one but it's in washington, not sure if that guy still has it though.

i rembmer now, it was $750 in tennesee but i need to tow it back. to rent a truck and trailer was too exspensive and wasn't 100% my brother's truck would make it

Strip your interior and find out, lol. You guys need to realize that we are not the mainstream car buyers. We are a different breed.

Don't be such a realist! Stand with us, brother!

I've tried to talk with people about career choices and since I "like cars," they tell me I should do something with cars, like "be a car designer or something," but I don't think I could stand having legitimate ideas shot down 24/7 because the buyers are lazy, incompetent, stupid, etc. And I think the companies that design real cars have a long waiting list of more than qualified people waiting to work for them...

So I guess I'll continue dismantling my car as I see fit.

^I got that alot, but i didn't want to build cars other people want, i want to build the kinda cars i would want but i don't see people having the same tastes as me.

Yeah, I just couldn't create something that would be about as fun as trying to have a sensual encounter with a robot, which is IMO a pretty accurate description of trying to drive a hybrid spiritedly. I guess we're a different breed. But that's what I like, too. =p

Well of course... But ppl are talking about mass produced cars...

I guess it would be interesting to see how well a mid 80's CRX would sell against today's market. It'd have no options, and get 40+ mpg and cost like 5k msrp, lol. Then we'd see where their priorities are, I guess.

People act like they are going to die without A/C, so maybe it wouldn't do too well with today's pansy market? I think people get used to stuff too quickly. How many people have you see act like their best friend died when their phone battery died or they lost their phone? Yupp. 10 years ago no one had one and somehow it's gotten to the point where life will cease without a cell phone?

Ok, whoops, off topic again..

I feel pretty lost without my cell phone... lol I stopped remembering phone numbers when I got one.

I forget who did it, but there is that comedy sketch that sums it up perfectly. It's about the guy on the airplane that becomes exasperated when they announce that the newly-introduced wi-fi isn't working on that flight and he's like "well that's just great!" and they're like, "uh, 5 minutes ago you didn't even know it existed!"

i only use my ac when my passengers force me too, unless i'm on the highway. It's more fuel effiecent to use ac at 45+ mph than the aero drag caused by having your windows down (based on something i read a while ago)

Yeah, I once pulled close to 35 mpg with the Protege on the way to MD running 70mph and A/C.

Why don't surprises ever seem to be a good thing, like "hey, who washed my dishes?" or, "wow, someone changed my oil for me!" It always seems to be, "whoa, where the heck did that oil leak come from?"

Ehh, not that it's exactly a new oil leak.. It has apparently coated everything, which I guess is good and bad. It's good in the sense that it's protected some things, and bad in the sense that that oil is no longer protecting my engine. It hasn't moved on the dipstick as far as I can tell, so I'm guessing it's not new, but the drips on the oilpan look new to me. Not like new as in since I got the car (haven't really looked at it closely until now..), but new as in they're still liquid-oily. I guess that's what I get for playing around with 20-year-old toys!

I know Myth Busters did a test on A/C verses windows down and the A/C won in MPG's. However, they were using identical Chevy Blazers which have V6's. I always wondered if my little 4banger would actually be better without the A/C on on the highway. But I rarely use mine too, I don't like straining my motor just so I can stay cool, dadeo.

And now this is stuck in my head...

Fuuuu.... Spoke too soon about surprises I guess. This wasn't the late-night discovery that I had in mind.. I've had about enough fun for one day. :( At least I hadn't been planning on taking the 626 to the fun run.

You use the A/C more than you realize in the winter. Even with the light off, as long as you're on the far left 3 positions, it's still on.

What?? s*** man, How'd this happen?

The trip I made from Hagerstown, MD and back quite a few times this summer was almost exactly one tank of gas for me every time. I never used the ac in the first couple trips because I had heat problems due to a lean idle, bad autozone radiator, and a couple other things. Once I got the corksport on I used the ac on the way home one trip and had to stop at a gas station 40 miles away from home cause the gas light came on. All the other trips consisted of my window being down either all the way or most of the way the entire trip. In my experience, it's more efficient to drive with the window down.

I don't use my A/C, because every time I turn it on it runs my fans like crazy, causeing my lights to dim, car to vibrate like crazy, and s**** at slow speeds like crap. F A/C. I always roll with the windows down, unless its raining. I think I used the A/C maybe 10 times this summer and that is about it.
