......unless you have all aluminum lightened pulleys and UDP. Then it's a different story...with correct tension. Not gonna overtension into bearing failures to not squeak. Just went back with Gates micro-V and no problems. At least that's what I experienced. No squeaks since then........As for the belts themselves, I prefer Goodyear Gatorbacks. Very high quality and almost impossible to make squeal.
Well, kinda....the humidity or not had bearing on it, AC would make it do it a bit. They were plenty tight to not make noise. The Gates aren't even as tight as I had the GY's and they don't have any noise............doubting OP has all aluminum pulleys either.
Right, I just mean from my perspective, that's a rip off. I can get the belts from Autozone for, what $8 or $9 bucks? And take the 30mins to put them on in my garage. And I prefer the piece of mind knowing that I installed them, not someone at the dealership. But I'm weird like that. It's all gravy.
Sorry to thread jack. Anyway, the belts probably just need to be tightened. I think the only sockets you need are a 12mm and a 14mm and it doesn't take very long.
Yeah, Gates took less tension to be quiet and no flop when revving. All I usually go by, never been issue. Most of the time when belts are correctly tensioned, you should just be able to twist it 90 degrees when tightened on longest span between pulleys. Had to tension GY's noticeably more to get near being noisefree but would still make noise when first started in morning if AC was used.Weird. Are you sure the Gates belts were looser? I don't know about you, but I'm terrible at measuring belt tension without any sort of gauge.
