Future 2008 mazdaspeed 3 build

I just bought a mazdaspeed 3 with a HKS Hi-Power CatBack Exhaust System and a turbo-smart dual port BOV, and in a few months im looking to build it to about 500 hp and was wondering where to start?

I'd start with the search function. Then probably a new car. 500hp is achieveable with this car however it's not exactly easy or inexpensive.

Start by bringing the car back, or swapping in a LSX motor.

But really if you want 500hp, you will have to be the first to achieve it.

I have the budget...up to about fifteen thousand. And yes i hope to be one of the first to achieve that much power with the speed. I am just new to import cars ive always owned an american truck which is pretty much straight forward horsepower compared to this bolt on stuff

^^^^^^ +1. Also, even if you did hypothetically reach 500hp, don't expect it to last long before the fuel pump fails, turbo takes a s***, engine blows, tranny blows up, or any of the other various problems that would likely take place.

$15k would be cutting it close. You'd have to build the block, huge turbo, mani with ewg, electronics, etc. And be sure to have a spare transmission on the side. LOL.

he could do it for less than 10k.

Bigger turbo (ATP GT3076R)
Upgraded Intake and TIP
Upgraded Exhaust Mani
Upgraded TMIC or FMIC
Upgraded FP
Forged Pistons/rods
head studs/gasket
stepcolder plugs
Tuning solution (AP or SB)
Installation cost if your bringing it into a shop

that should do it.

Also have to consider a full exhaust, transmission components, fluids, tuning sessions, motor mounts, suspension, etc. $15k would probably go quick if you want it to be done right and reliable.

he says he already has the exhaust, im assuming that includes the DP.

RMM's an extra 140, and fluids gonna be less than 100.
A protunes gonna run you around 500.

all in all it should be around 8-9k

and you dont need coilovers to makes 500whp lol

Luckily i have a family of mechanics that can help so labor isnt a problem...as far as the internals but like me they stick to american and are unfamilar with imports...i figure once everything is built i bring it to a professional tuner.

haha ^ i agree to be honest.

These cars are good for about 350 to MAYBE 400 horse.

def not going to hit 500 though, sorry.

the highest i have seen is around 430whp.

a couple guys are close to 500whp right now. its gonna take the help of serveral very knowlegeble ppl and alot of hard work. but I think if the guys got the money (which he clearly does) and wants to endure the impending frustration and roadblocks along the way. He might have shot.

dont discurage the guy for wanting to push the car to the limit.

Catback does not include a downpipe. You dont need coilovers to hit 500, but if you want the car to stay on the road you will. the torque steer is going to to be a b****. I've read that only 1 person has been over 500. And that came with several blown transmissions, and TONS of tuning (likely to cost more than $500) if I remember correctly.

err umm 1 *decent* tune could cost over $500.

That's my point. If you want a professional tune for a 500hp vehicle, its going to cost more than $500. $15k is a lot of money. And it very well could be done; just not likely or reliably. I'm not trying to discourage the guy or anything, just being realistic. But setbacks and roadblocks will likely also cost money(i.e. blown tranny, turbo, axles, etc), tapping into that budget.

If you want 500 HP, man did you choose the wrong car. You'd basically have to replace everything! I think you'd end up spening more than 15K to do it.
