ok so ive had my MS6 for a little over a year now. just hit 50,000 miles. up until last week i have had no shift problems. (missed 3rd for the 1st time ever 3 weeks ago racing) installed the Jbarone short shift plate a few months back. now all the sudden im having problems going from 2nd to 3rd. and sometimes 5th is hard to get into...? even under light driving... (even tho i drive the piss outta my car on a normal basis) bought the car with 35,XXX miles. dont know if the clutch cable has ever been adjusted... any ideas guys? how strong is our transmission? im hoping this is a adjustment problem and not something worse

have you made the proper adjustments to the linkages inside the car?

not possible as its not cable opperated... but you can adjust the rod that presses the master cylinder on the pedal.

im just freakin out cause one week it was fine then all the sudden day by day its been getting worse. and its not like im new to driving a manual.. lol. im 27 and ive had all manual cars since i was 15.

Its probably the shift plate. It makes your gears so much closer together. I couldnt drive my car with one installed. I really could have gotten in a wreck so I took it off after a spin around some back roads. I kept getting locked out of gears. If you have any shift issues it will definetly magnify and problem you are having.

But do as the other said and try adjusting your shift cable inside the car. Easy 5 minutes adjustment.

i don't like any kind of shifting mods like short throws or the plate just because of problems like this. all i will do is bushings. i have heard way to many bad story's because of short shifter throwing sin-crows out . and or the plate in my eyes..

What?

You could do any damage with any mod, you could do damage even stock! its how you treat your car.

You need to opperate the shifter like its a fine tuned machine, because it is. It's Not however a crowbar attatched to a 12 second pass.

If installed incorrectly a shift plate could alter the natural position of the cable relative to the transmission. This can engage or put additional pressure on particular synchronizers. That is why you buy quality parts that have been refined and tested. The nature of the two products (shift plate and STS), when manufactured and installed correctly, will not cause increased wear on synchronizers.

It sounds to me like something is going out in either the clutch or the transmission. If everything was working fine with the shift plate for months then the transmission began giving you problems last week it's highly unlikely the shift plate is causing the problem.

Sounds like syncros.

Thanks,
Jamie

I've never heard or read such problems with short shifters or plates causing syncro issues.

If I'm not mistaken you had the "other" shift plate. If you ever have an interest in trying mine you let me know. You would not have the same opinion as the other if you do. I'm that confident in the quality and performance of the MS6 kit.

Thanks,
Jamie

You could drain the fluid and see if there's anything in it and then put some synthetic trans fluid in like the Motorcraft Full Synthetic.

I would love to run the kit. But as of now my car is shifting bad with just the stage 2 STS. It has been fine for a while but the past couple days I have hated shifting. Theres so much resistance going into each gear its rediculous. My shifter has a mind of its own. Theres no way to really explain it. you would have to actually drive it to see what I mean.

That Sucks! What do ya think is wrong?

I bought some used linkage. I was gonna swap it out. But it looks like its going to be a pain to do. there is no how-to on this type of thing. :(

i know exactly what you mean. mine is the same way.. it changes what gears it wants to fuk with and its totally random... Just wanted to post up that i removed my short shift plate from jbarone. you guys were right. it had nothing to do with the problem im having. once i get this figured out its going back on.

I should have suggested removing it to see if the problem is there with out the plate. I'm sorry to hear that it is but also glad it's not the shift plate.

Keep us posted; it appears there are more MS6 folks with this similar issue.

Thanks,
Jamie
