This article states that there is a new TSB for the SPD6:

MAZDA Owners of several models may hear a loud ticking noise when the vehicle is started. In T.S.B. 0102810 issued on May 14, Mazda said several models 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 , 2007 CX-7 and 2006-7 Mazdaspeed 6 might need new actuators for the engines variable valve timing system.

Anyone with this issue may want to bring their's in.

When I start my car it makes a horrible racket, but it sounds more like my exhaust hitting something on startup - a heatshield rattling or something to that effect. Im curious what this noise sounds like though.

I had this problem a while back and from what I remembered, yeah it was pretty damn loud. I has to do with the VVT and the pin not full engaging it. I have the invoice somewhere. It has the life story on it.

To get this TSB done would it require the removal of a SRI+TIP? From what I can figure out the intake has nothing to do with this TSB, but I could be wrong. My car ticks like crazy when I turn it on.

Its more of a rattle than a tick for me, happens only on cold startups.

It's probably just lifter tick.

I have this happen, as well. It's a slight metallic vibration that lasts for only a few seconds on cold starts.

same here......for me it sounded like it was a diesel....and it had that ratteling and crap so i took it to the dealer....they did the job for free and this is what they wrote......."FOUND TSB 01-026/09 found adjuster would not release remove cover found chain stretched to allow ratchet to 14 tooth replaced VVT and chain for VVT"......now i dont got any more problems

P.S---i also got all the descriptions and part numbers and crap....full invoice if anyone needs anything.

yeah Taylor me and u are pretty much not getting this done under warrenty lol.. i lost mine a long long time ago.. but this is pretty cool for people who still have thier's, great find and its a common problem with ford's so it doesnt suprise me that it happened to us..

depends on the situation.. if theres any liabitliy for the dealer/mfgr.. then yes.. if its just busted s*** on your car like a door handle or?? nope!

with my Lexus SC4.. i experienced several passive recalls on little parts.. they would just do these services unknown to me while i was getting my oil changed etc.. im sure its diff with each company..
