So im trying so see if its worth it to get the dealership to check out my transmission or just asume that its a clutch. I have 4 days left on powertrain warranty but dealer wants 170 just to check it out.

Being jobless at the present time makes it a little hard to fork up that kinda doe.
So the problem only happens at 5700+ rpm shift in First. It grinds into 2nd. Every other gear is fine. But when I told the dealer on the phone this he jumped right to clutch. So opinions welcome. Thanx

i'm no expert but if it were the clutch i'd think it would do this in any gear at that rpm. not just goin into second.

how bout this, when you drive on the highway. say 6th gear 65mph. and tip into the throttle to accelerate. does the car hesitate? do the rpms rise up slightly then fall back down as the car starts to accelerate? this would be a slipping clutch if so. and in return could affect, effective clutch engagement at high rpms.

but a grinding sound? i'm unsure as to how a bad clutch could make a "grinding" noise.

I had a very similar instance on a non-Mazda car. It ended up being a bent shifting fork. -just food for thought!

Thanx for the info. I used to have a talon that I broken a clutch release for in so I will get it check out. It almost feels like the clutch might not be disigaugeing all the way. Will get it check out here soon.
