What have you done to your MS3 today?

well, my hood gets verrrrry hot due to the new mani and lack of heat shields, so I decided to fab up a functional scoop to provide some air flow to the back of the motor. Ill post some pics with it painted this afternoon. The scoop is from a WRX.

Just a quick question, but what have you done to make sure the scoop will be functional?

That doesn't make a scoop functional.

Well, for starters I didn't use the gigantic STI scoop. And I guess your definition of "functional" is not the same as mine, as I wanted air flow to the back of my engine, which I have successfully accomplished.

edit: deleted an unnecessarily rude response. not typical of me. my bad.

Whatever, I was more interested in the design and any engineering that went on for you to come to the conclusion that this was the best route to take to dissipate heat. No longer an interest in talking to you.

I'm pretty sure that a forward facing hood scoop mounted to a hole cut in a hood plus a vehicle that is being propelled forward would likely result in a functional hood scoop.

I understand that there are differential pressures to consider (IE: those caused by the aerodynamics and flow paths caused by the grill/front end as well the plastic under the engine bay) but I think they will be negligible when air is being forced in to a scoop at 20+MPH.

At a stand still, heat rises. A scoop should also work like a vent in this condition.

Just finished taking the side moldings off. Sides look so much smoother now.

Also, anyone know if there's a trick to changing the springs on the Forge BPV? I can't get the top off to save my life. And which spring should I use? Mods in sig if it matters.

It just twists off (counterclockwise). When I was using mine, I used the yellow because it held boost fine and was the smoothest to drive with.

haha....yeah, I got the top off, but it was a major pain in the ass for some reason. I've been running the blue and switched to the yellow. Only difference I noticed was the sound being a bit lower.

thanks! i appreciate it! sitting at stop lights i can see a mean heat mirage around the scoop. it's doing the job!
