The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I'm with you 100%.

You know y I get beef with religion sometimes? Because it was a good idea to... wait for it.... spend $250,000 on a giant Jesus statue on the side of the highway to promote your church. Rather than do what the bible/Jesus preaches. How about spend the $250k on feeding the homeless, helping with education problems within inner city schools, or helping the needy families who have lost jobs with this recession, I could probably go on for days. But no, instead lets go build a big ******* monument of Jesus to help bring salvation to people! Ya that makes sense. Ignorant cocks.

And now they will spend another $250k to rebuild it... Sounds like a great investment. I wonder what you tell a bank to get a loan for building a giant statue of Jesus? I would venture to guess that the statue bringing in more church goers to their establishment, and thus increasing their "revenues" probably comes up in that talk...

/end rant.

BTW, don't PM telling me I'm going to hell. Thx. ;)

no they will just convince their church goers it was an attack from satan and they need to take an offering to rebuild it... sad thing is with a chuch of 4000+ people i bet they get that in one offering for rebuilding it (lol2)

Unfortunately, this is too close to reality. Damn bible belt...

i personally find the whole thing pretty comical and ironic that if God controls the universe and allows any and everything to happen, theres OBVIOUSLY a reason he let lightning strike that monstrosity thats simply a publicity stunt on a churches part...

It got b**** slapped by the hand of God-ah.

maybe this is evidence that supports the theory that there is a being of a higher power.

or funny random chance.

You would be surprised (or maybe not...) at how many things happen everyday that are "1 in a million" type of ordeals. Anything can happen at any time, "chance" is a funny thing. When you think about seeing miraculous things occur, think about every other person/event that happened every other time/day and you'll find those things really aren't so miraculous. Crazy s*** is bound to happen somewhere, sometime... Any gambler can tell you that. ;)

dude ive been on trips to places like haiti, dominican republic, peru and bolivia and things ive seen on those trips and some of the things that had to happen for me to go on those trips are more than just things of chance...

ive seen more f-ed things that cant be explained at the age of 22 than most people will have seen in their whole lives

I feel ya, and it really all comes down to personal beliefs. But crazy things, bad things, have been happening for as long as we have written records. And I'm sure before that as well...

Just because we as humans can't explain things, doesn't mean much. I hear that a lot and it doesn't really pan out. Humans had the need for Gods and religion because we saw the sun, stars, weather, so many things we couldn't explain outside of Divine intervention. But now we can explain them, quite easily... Personally, I feel that religion drags down the human race, making people think that Humans are not capable of greatness, that we need to explain things with a Godly touch on them. But, I think that time & time again, we've proven that with patience and hard work, we're some pretty awesome mother fuckers!

Ultimately only time will tell. ;)

Sure you can.

god i hate engineers!!

Sorry, I don't want to offend people, as I know religion is always a touchy subject. I enjoy discussing things like this, and I don't want anyone to think I'm attacking anyone's beliefs. I'm not an atheist, more-so agnostic, and I want to clarify that I just find that most organized religion is worthless.

Here's my vouch, lol. My pops is the OM for an outreach ministry with the Vineyard Community Church, a non-denominational christian church. He runs the 2nd largest food pantry, welfare/assistance program in the tri-state area. I volunteer up there whenever I have the time.

Some places do in fact, practice what they preach. Unfortunately, those places are few and far between.
