Any photographers in here?

I don't know I've never used either. The sigma would be even less than that used. You wished for a cheap wide angle, I granted your wish.

how the heck should I know? My experience is that the 3rd party lenses can be very good, but the Canon stuff is better. I'd rather have the 10-22. I'm sure if you look hard and are patient, you can find a really really good deal on it.

It wasn't specifically directed at you, but thanks! lol

Its better. When I was shopping for it 2 years ago..the Sigmas were very inconsistent in quality. Some had good copies, some had bad. It's lighter than the Sigma/Tokina. It's super sharp I'd spend the extra dough on the Canon :)

Let's post more pics!

Or he can surf online and check out

www.dpreview.com and www.megapixel.net for reviews. Which I htink are better than any magazines out there.

Best way to figure out what you need:

budget
what you want to do (key)
what you're looking for and compare models

I got asked last night about a canon t2i and a nikon d90 and I referred the guy to the d90. The fact is that the T2i is still squeezing 18 megapixels into a sensor size smaller than that of the d90 even with its new gapless microlense technology. Fact of the matter is they're still squeezing a lot of pixels into a sensor size smaller than that of the D90. You're going to be wishing for a higher quality lens to compensate for that loss in image quality. You will notice this if you're printing large photos and/or shooting high ISO levels at night.

Now, since he's pretty new to the game, that probably won't matter but why overlook that part?

A few other things that the Canon can do is you can zoom on Live View mode. The Nikon, you can't. And the Canon has a higher resolution screen but that just means your pictures look great on the camera but might not look good on the computer screen. It's kind of a double edged sword.

Awesome! Thanks this helped a lot
