Media button and Sirius SAT: should it be warranty work?

Hi,
I had Sirius Satellite radio installed when I bought my Mazda3 two years ago. Now I recently got an iPod touch and would like to use the AUX In with the MEDIA button on the Head Unit.

I understand that if I want my Mazda dealer to fix this, they would need to add a (approx $115) splitter (or a more expensive iPod integration unit). Has anyone had luck getting Mazda to cover this under warranty? The MEDIA button is basically broken, and there is no mention in the manual that installing satellite would preclude the AUX In from working.

The car's radio is therefore not working as expected. Is it reasonable to expect this to be covered under the 3-year bumper to bumper warranty?

What year is your Mz3?

When the ACI was first introduced in 2007 Mazda did end up installing the switchbox for free for many people as they didn't advertise that it was disabled when they had sirius installed. That said Mazda eventually started putting disclaimer stickers on the ACI port saying it was disabled, and AFAIK that cleared them legally.

Just to be clear. If you have a pre '08.5 model then don't let them suck you into buying an ipod integration module you don't want. The switchbox WILL NOT work with both ipod integration and sirius together. One of the ports on the box only works with the ACI. If you have a '08.5 then I believe there's a passthrough on the sirius harness that allows you to plug the ACI into it..... it sounds like you don't have that.

It's a 2008 (not 2008.5).

You're saying that for my model, it's EITHER iPod integration (if I want true integration with the HU) OR Sirius, right? But the switchbox would allow me to use the line out, Aux in and still be able to use SAT separately, correct? I would need to use the iPod controls, etc.

I had my sirius for about a year in my 07. But I recently cancelled it and switched over the plug to the aux input. Without and external "ipod cable" or switch box you cannot run both. Due to the fact that they use the same plug on the back of the factory HU. You could always use an FM mod to play your ipod, but they suck IMO. Good luck
