buying a protege, unsure the engine size

if its a 99-00 it is ether a lx or es cuz there was never a 2.0l in the 99 or 00 just the 1.6l and the 1.8l

This car might not have an egr, my car dosent. The distributer is not the problem because this car has no distributer. If it has a check engine light get it scanned and fix that problem first. Sounds like a misfire to me. Anyway good luck...

Car is a DX!
Lx had a tach, and power windows.

There was an SE it was in Canada and overseas....not here in the U.S. though. But its always possible for someone to import it over here during a military transfer.

Car is a DX so its a 1.6.

The SE is based on the ES so it should have the 1.8 and most of the same options like power windows/locks, tach, cruise control, alloy wheels, sunroof. This car is a DX.
100% positive. I had to upgrade my cluster to one with a tach, and install my own leather seats, so im sure it is a DX

ok guys just to clear things up the car is now in my driveway it clearly says "SE" on the side of the car, and the guy at mazda told me SE too. i'm in canada, this is a canadian car. newfoundland = canada btw.

the car is a 5 speed standard 4 door, twincam 1.6L 4-cylinder, with no cruise control or ABS. the car does not have power windows or doors, but has a CD player and A/C. the car is beige in color.

this should clear everything up! lol

Nice, congrats on the car. and enjoy it. i miss my 01 ES! 2.0Litre. They are very reliable. and Post some pictures when you get her all cleaned up!

thanks, will do! it should be sunny wednesday, so i'll give her a good old wash, clean the insides out, and take a few good ones under the sun. just took her for a spin again, showed a buddy and he said that the gas hesitating sounds like it's flooding, which means it could be the EGR malfunctioning and making it run too rich. we're going to put a computer on her tomorrow to check the error code for the check engine. hopefully it's something simple.

thanks everyone for the help, and nay to the non-believers! :)

by the way that gas hesitiation problem, we sort of temporarily fixed it for now, we increased the idle, which means that low hesitation goes away for the most part. we did an oil change last night, new oil filter, scraped, sanded, primed and painted the rocker panel that had a rust hole in it, and tried to free that stupid gas cap trigger but it wont work, it's still stuck. the horn doesnt work either, we cant even find it (relay and fuse are in tact, we even hear the relay when we press on the horn). hopefully inspection fixes that for us. we took the good rims/tires off our honda civic and put them on the back

father just said the problem is an off-idle stall, dunno what that means.
