Well Naomi has wanted one since she was in 2nd grade. She is now in 8th grade top 5% of her school state A Student. So Rachel and I picked up her car. Thing is she has to help with the build and not sit by and watch.
It's a standard 66 bug from Oregon. Has some Cancer here and there. But i have friends that can help there.

But onto some project pics.

Some months back, Picked up 2 1300cc stock motors, One with all parts needs a few thing to run, IE fuel pump distributor and wire and plugs, Long block has the fuel pump, a 12 volt generator and stand. and will be used as a core down the road. for a newer motor.

Picked up POP OUT rear 1/4 windows, 50 for the set all parts. But with age need new ruber seals (30-40 bucks) and hinge chome needs some wort. but new the kits go for 350-450 new. and theseare original German glass and great condition.

Subbing!

This is some father-of-the-year stuff right here. I'd love to do something like this for my kids' first car (if/when I have a kid... haha)

cool project. The good thing about those are you can basically build one up from the group up out of a catalog. Every nut and bolt for that thing can be ordered.

another rotary swap. and a busa thats a new one.

Naw 16 year old. and she and i both love hte simplicity of Air cooled. (one mroe reason why i love them less to go wrong).
YEs everythgi from a catalog now. lol. cna even ger 69 and later complete stock brand spanking new pan for 800 bucks. BUT SHE LOVES THE STOCK LOOK WITH NEW RIMS< She is liking the Porsche reverse chromies with moon caps. (same rims on there now but new.) GOing for a full Wide 5 disc brake swap. same trans for now, and a used motor at first. BUt looking to do a 1600-1776 with dual carbs, and a freeflyer trans, after its been running for a bit. Interior she wants black. so the original door panels are going. and dark blue with the european side paint scheme but in MEtallic blue. Narrowd 2 inch front wiht 2.5 inch dropped spindles, btu a 50/50 dro front end, so she will get 1-5 inches of height adjustment. Probaly a high back seat for safety, and 3 poitn should belts for safety. btu wil be fun. we are doing all the work ourselfves. Paint, body, will be fun.

thanks

Hurry lets put a high powered motor in a light car and give to a 16 year old for her first car. Great idea guys.

lol.

I know every one is throwing out fun ideas. I hve had fun in a Baja with 36"s and a stock ford v6, pulled wheels off the ground.

BUt also i Cant take all the credit, HEr mom is all for the idea also. She is a great straight A 8th grader, with out us pushing, does ti on her own. never in trouble. And all the thingsd we worry about in teenagers, she is honest about it with us from her friends doing it. and has no desire.

BUT this will be fun.

ive always wanted an older bug like that. looks like you got your work cut out for you. good luck with the project.

ha h yes an old bug! my dad and i actually have a project bug! its a 64 rail buggy thats street legal(nana) The old vw engines are really simple but the whole air cooled thing freaks me out! ha ha im used to dealling with fuel injection with the mazda and all... but congrats man it looks like a good father daughter project(cool)

YEah it has always been a hm concept. BUt lawnmowers are air cooled. MY 150cc scooter, and my old Honda mini trail are air colled. And soem porsches . But makes for saimplicity, less things to go bad, (no stress on water pump or blowing a head gasket. Radiator, and waterlines. Makes pulling the motor for a clutch job a snap. LOve 4 bolts, Fuel line, and a couple fo wires and your good. Just if anything extra oil cooling for the off road guys. I think we are addign a oil sump for more oil cpacity, and an oil filter. FOr the extra oil, and cleaning.

busa bug lolz

The busa swap is about as common as a lsx swap with small cars. Seriously a lot of people do it on the mini's, smart cars, rabbits, or hell if you want to go really crazy STI swap that bug(been done several times)!

Did people miss the part about this car being for a 16 year old just getting her license?

I know of all the crazy swaps. STI, (subienothc.com i haved wathced. Like i aid we had a v6 baja my friend>) i have for 25 years seen RWD, front engine V8 Vw.s Busa i have seen that swap. & years ago, i liked the Busa for a MINI cooper (old school only, no BMW influenced).

YEah i already know what Aircooled VW i want. Depends on if the 2 i want i can get cheap.
Type 2 transporter single cab. or a 62-67 Type 3 Nothc Back. BUt i will still keep them Aircooled. Just Turbo them. and layframe, or pan.

My daughter Loves the look of them, mostly stock. adn she dosent want crazy. IF she wants cray, Ill let her take the MS3. BUt she loves the looks not how fast she can go. Even if she had a powerful car, THis child woudl drive with brains, unlike a lot of Kids i see. (none form this board). BUt yeah i have been into Air cooled VW for over 25 years. Have loved them. And she does also.
