Just installed Corksport CBE . . .

I finally made the decision to go ahead & get the Corksport CBE. Excellent decision it was.

I originally intended to also get an ATP downpipe (& still want one), but frankly, I chickened out! I ultimately determined that I'm just too damn "vain", to be seen driving around in a smoking bomb! Damn vanity. Anyways, my installer said he's installed hundreds of aftermarket catbacks, and this is easily the best fitment he has encountered.

One small problem though, there is a leak at the cbe to cat joint; when I put my hand real close to it, you can definitely feel air blowing out (a small leak on the bottom of the flange-flange joint & another at the top). My installer suggested the cat-flange is slightly warped, and the best solution might be adding a second (metal) gasket. A forum member suggested it will likely seal itself, and check it again in a while (?).

I will start by saying this exhaust sounds absolutely HOT!!! There is a slight performance gain, but the real gain is the much improved sound over the oem system.
WOW . . . this made my car WAY more fun to drive.

My new wheels should arrive from Japan any day now . . . my next treat.

BTW . . . I was not aware of this at the time of purchase, but fair warning to any other Canuck buying Corksport, you'll pay customs/duty on their stuff, because the country of origin is in Asia (S. Korea I believe).

Easy fix... Get a Corksport Replacement pipe for the mid pipe.. Get the Resonated one or the CAT one if you want to keep it legal. I have the exact same CBE.. And I have a TURBOXS race pipe on it as well right now.. No leaks

If you bend the flanges away from the connection the problem you will run into is the threaded holes in the Corksport flanges will no longer match up to what you're connecting to. Just something for you to think about.

PERMATEX ULTRA COPPER Hi-Temp RTV Silicone Gasket Maker . . .

Anybody have any experience with this product (PERMATEX ULTRA COPPER Hi-Temp RTV Silicone Gasket Maker)? I bought a tube to try out.

It takes very high temps . . . so, applied to each side of the existing Corksport-supplied metal gasket (they refer to this method, as "gasket dressing"), it should do the job of filling these small leaks/gaps. I'll be getting it applied on Monday, so I'll let y'all know.

Give it a shot. If that does not work, the double gasket idea may be the best bet. Or better yet, Cork sport would most likey replace that part for free. You should contact them regardless.

I would love to hear this, exhaust!!

mine lined right up.. with the stock pipe and the Corksport test pipe.. so maybe its flawed? this part is pretty heavy and solid, im not not sure any of these fixes will hold long term.. that main gasket gets fried from heat and moisture pretty quick.. id try to let it settle.. and then if it still doesnt fit? contact CS for sure!! to let em know whats up.. its gonna suck sending it back.. that things like 7 feet long.. too bad.. i liked these muffs.. but, just couldnt take the cop BS they created for me..

and trust me these sound very sick!! but, honestly a little loud.. id recommend the Corksport TP.. it helps alot and doesnt muffle too much..

I used that on one of the flanges of my SU test pipe to make up for the small leak that I couldn't get rid of. I put it on nearly a year ago and it's holding up fine. I'd say its worth a shot.

When I discussed this issue with Corksport, Jason suggested that as long as the leak is "relatively" small, a high temp RTV would be a likely solution. According to the manufacturer, this stuff is good to 700 degrees F (371 degrees C), so that's some pretty extreme temp.

BTW markspd6 . . . that L O N G pipe that you had, has now been divided into two sections, so it's no where near as long as your original model (especially for shipping). And I don't find it loud at all . . . its a bit loud at the low end, especially when decreasing speed and the engine is in decompression, otherwise it's very tolerable (quite desirable actually!!). Of course, add a down-pipe and I'm sure it gets very very LOUD . . . who knows, maybe this is the "push" I need to get that down-pipe I desire so much!

I had a leak when installing my catback as well. The catback / midpipe gasket SU sells solved the problem for me . ..

Update . . .

So just to update the thread . . . we applied the RTV to both sides of the Corksport gasket, reinserted it between the flanges, tightened it back up . . . sealed perfectly, no air could be felt escaping.

Its been a few days since the install and all continues to be just fine . . . I'll keep checking it every once in a while.

I continue to be blown away by the sound of this system. I can barely stop the drool (LOL).

Gad damn...I would love to hear this bad boy out. I have the MF CBE and I cut the tips off...I'm thinking I need some new oval pipes to extend from the cut...Seems like the exhaust is resonating behind the rear bumper. Where you located in Calgary?

Yup, probably was me, I take that route occasionally. Appreciate the compliments . . . and yes, if I dare say so myself . . . although I haven't heard it from the exterior, from the inside it does sound quite fine! So thanx.

I'm considering an ATP catted down-pipe, maybe later this summer, that's when I can start using a stage 2 map, for some more serious performance gains . . . of course, that's when the sound will be quite different (loud)! I'm a bit afraid of the "LOUD" part.
