Meth injection...thoughts?

Knock seems to be a somewhat common problem with the MS3, especially when you start going past stock. I've been thinking about getting a meth injection kit for a while, and was reading the various threads here about it. I was just wondering if anyone has any long-term experience with it (most people like to write reviews after a few days, without having a whole lot of time to really get to know the pros and CONS of the setup). What kit is most popular (hopefully meaning best quality/results)? Does it really get rid of knock, especially in higher gears at higher RPMs?

It's just a very limited use part, and before spending my hard-earned cash I'd love to hear some longer term reviews.

Thanks!

I've been running methanol for over a year now. Can't say enough good stuff about it. The car makes more power with than without, but I have a pretty agressive timing map.

I never really had knock, to be honest, so I can't say if it really helps with that or not. I use mine to cool intake charges.

I use a Snow pump, a Labonte controller (essentially Labonte and Snow are the same part), and a 1 gallon resevoir mounted in the engine bay, where the battery used to be.

Also, I would recommend switching between running straight methanol, and a 50/50 mix, and see what works best for you.

Good info, thanks! I know you said that you have a tune that is more aggressive on the timing, but would you think any adjustment would be necessary to run a meth/water setup? I have a Cobb AP and ATR...I'm not looking to necessarily make more power with the meth, just make the car a little safer

you don't need a tune when you run meth unless you want to run more aggressively...

Running meth on an OTS map will lower your BATs and raise your octane rating, both of which are good things to combat KR in our cars...

I would recommend getting the Devils Own stage 2 kit - best kit out IMHO

I ran it without a tune up till 2 months ago, so yeah, you'd be fine.

Ive heard good things about running meth..I go through Surgeline tuning wiht my car, and they use Aquamist....Thats all they use, spose to be very good..BUT on the forums ive heard Devils own is good too. My tuner told me to expect about 30 whp with it,which I think is good. Also.........the meth&water helps cool the valves, since in our Disi motor no fuel passes over them. Its prabaly a win win for this car, I just have not gotten around to it lol. Goodluck :)

i dont do drugs

aquamist is the s***, but you pay for it...

So, with only a CAI .
if meth were installed, and the ECU reset.
would it teach itself to make power with the meth ?
Or is a standback, AP, etc needed to take advantage of it ?

you need a tuning solution. power is made by leaning out afr's, advancing timing, and increasing boost among other things. something the stock tune will not do.

But if you're not looking for extra power and are merely looking to reduce knock methanol injection will help, right? No tune required?

Yes, and it also helps cool intake charges. Some guys actually run methanol instead of a intercooler.

not sure that would work, the cooling effect is thru evaporation. While alcohol has a huge specific heat content, the evaporation means the meth is changing to a gas, therefore expanding a great deal, and displacing oxygen in the charge.

no free lunch

Uh, I'm not gonna argue, but let's just say you need to do more research.
