drove through a puddle

a teacher once knew a kid who went through water while offraoding and it was a bit deep. he ended up bending a rod. he drove it like that till there was a break from school. unlike air water is not compressable. just be careful outthere if in doubt go around

Wait for real? I thought CAI increased the chance of hyrdo-locking because it lowered your intake even further? I was always told that with a CAI you have to be uber careful of puddles and such.

yes this is true as its easier to get water into the intake and screw up the maf sensor, killing the car until you replace it. but think about it.

It has to travel up the intake
Then thru the turbocharger
Then across the intercooler
down to the throttle body
and up thru the intake manifold finally reaching the engine

if it can get that far without the car stalling or you noticing, your already underwater.....

When I hydro locked mine, I definitely accomplished all that. Didn't seem too hard. Only difference I was running stock intake. I saw the engine in the shop. Water in the two of the cylinders. I'm thinking if my intake had been lower, it would have only stalled out faster. The car clearly had no trouble sucking the water in.

itz for your entertainment, in between posting to actual mod / technical questions. :[] and it is entertaining because it sounds crazy yet it is 100% true.

it was 8 AM in the morning and I was half asleep, wasn't about to pull a u-turn and extend my commute to work on a monday morning by another 15 minutes. so into the puddle I drove.

good to hear the choking at 4K rpm's should only last a day or so... honestly though, next time I will turn my car around and take the longer route to work. :)

I sincerely hope this is a joke. The fact that you've done / said some far-fetched things makes me afraid for the people on the roads around you. (nailbyt)

If you really are that daft, do the world a favor and don't procreate. Srsly.

you do realize how far fetched this sounds. 2 feet of water would completely submerge the wheels. water would be roughly a foot below the doorhandles.....

You hear about the weather in Massachusetts lately? Nearly everything was under 2ft of water.

i dont doubt the weather. 6 inches this past weekend here in NY. but accellerating into a lake 2ft deep and not having the car get stuck, or flood the interior is complete bs

Yeah its unlikely it was 2ft but who knows. I was dumb enough to drive through probably 8inchs of water in my Focus with a CAI once, the car stalled but luckily no water actually made it in to the engine.

The hesitation could be the MAF not liking the water.

Double post..... sorry..

I'll make it usefull. From my area, parking lots always flood around our malls.

....I pressed the gas hard leading up to the water in order to gain speed and then immediately let up and went into neutral while sailing through,,, barely made it since the submerged area was about 12 feet in length....

That part is sketchy to me. Again having first hand experience driving an MS3 in 2 ft of water, you would not just "sail" through. At that depth the water would be forced up over your hood. Chance are you the drag would stop the car pretty quick. Granted 12 feet isn't that long, but you are lucky didn't deploy you'r airbag.

I call BS on that picture. The depth is normal 6 feet to either side of the vehicle, but he's somehow in a three foot deep gully in the middle?

ah man so many negative posts.

maybe it was a foot of water, and not two. either way it was risky to drive through as pretty much everyone else was pulling a u-turn and finding an alternate route.

I think for everyone's sake I will stop sharing random stories online, lol. I had this exact driving through water conversation with a couple guys at work and it made perfect sense,, I guess when typing online it is just out of context and sounds like rambling.

and regardless of my level of written communication skills and lack of automotive / mechanical knowledge, I'm 27 and have an MBA, and am employed in a very challenging project management role. posting on the mazda forum is just something to do for fun and stay engaged with other mazda enthusiasts,,, not a huge deal, just ignore a discussion thread if u think it is BS.

not a problem for pcpower. accellerate to 88mph and put it in neutral

All he needs is 2 gigawatts of electricity and he can get back to the Paleolithic Period from whence all people who drive through 2 feet of water belong.

Yeah, if other cars are U-turning, never go through. Unless you have a Jeep with a snorkel.

1.21 Jigawatts. Get your s*** straight.

Whoops - been too long since I've seen the Doc! I stand corrected ;)

wait wait wait...

you hydrolocked your car on a stock intake?

(boom02)

was your car literally underwater? how were you able to get in the car? i find that extremely hard to believe unless the water level was high enough that some of it got IN the car once you opened the door.

and if water level is high enough to get in the car if you open the door, then im sorry but you're dumb and like he said (mod above me) u shouldnt drive thru without a snorkle installed
