Hey all, love my car more than my lexus or my BMW

2 questions if anyone has time

1) what is the best oil I can buy, to change and put in this car?

2) if I no longer have any mazda dealers near me, what is my best bet for having the car serviced?

thx all!

It all depends what you want to use or what your budget is. I personally use Motorcraft 5W20 Synthetic Blend with either a factory OEM Mazda filter or a Motorcraft oil filter.

Also, if it's not me doing the services, it's definately the dealer. I just dont trust independent shops, thats just my perrogative.

Where in L.A. are you?

west side LA, definitely cant drive into the valley for services, too time consuming

no budget really, just the best oil

Good: Motorcraft Synthetic Blend

Better: Mobil1 Synthetic

Best: Royal Purple Super Synthetic

Use either Motorcraft, Mazda, or K&N oil filter

I have always heard good things about Pennzoil Platnium synthetic. It's a true class IV syn oil where as mobil1 is a class III. I have always used Purolater Pure one filters. They are some of the best on the market. Check out www.bobistheoilguy.com for some great reading and reviews on oil and filters.

if you are going the pennzoil route...they just came out with pennzoil ultra, might want to check that out. used pennzoil in every car i have ever had with no issues, but this topic is going to get real clouded, real quick. everyone has a story and a favorite... (popcorn)

Make it easy. I use Mobile 1, and a Mobil 1 oil filter. There may be equals from other brands (Amsoil), but IMHO none is really any better for the vast majority of applications. Stay away from dino juice.

yeay! another oil thread! Frankly, if you change the oil according the the mftr's recommended interval, dino oil works just fine. I use Castrol GTX. NAPA gold for oil filter. Are they the best? Prolly not. But, they work just as well at half the price. oil changed every 3 mos. or 5000km (~3000miles), whichever comes first.

I use Penzoil Platinum as well. Rebates are quite common so that helps bringing down the cost for a good oil.

In my 25 years driving cars and racing motorcycles, what we have found out is changing the oil on a regular basis is more important than the brand or type (syn or dino). I change mine every 5000 miles or every 6 mo. if you drive less than 10,000 miles /yr. Oil is more important if you have a diesel engined vehicle. My V10 Touareg I change every 5000 miles with special diesel synthetic oil @ $9/qt. Ouch !, and it holds 13 qts of oil.

Both Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum (and Ultra) are a mix of Group III and Group IV base stocks. They are both excellent synthetics.

www.bobistheoilguy.com is a great site. Go to the forums and if you filter through opinion, you will find facts. There is at least one member there who is a former Pennzoil employee. He still has contacts and has posted info about the composition of the Pennzoil synthetics.

Motorcraft syn blend is a very good oil. Especially if you're under warranty and are sticking with the 5000 mile severe service interval.
