Power door lock actuators and proteges

I just bought an 03 Protege ES and one of the door locks is broke. I tore it down and need the actuator. Where is the cheapest place to get one?

mine went out on my pro5....from what I've heard, this is an issue with the protege 3rd gens.

onlinemazdaparts.com, call & talk to Jason, about 40 somethin each & 3 of them are different part numbers IIRC.

It's the stupid underengineered plastic gear in them that gets tired & breaks. Have replaced 2 of mine already. It's not that crazy of a fix. The door panels come off nice & clips seem pretty sturdy. Didn't break any of them doing mine. Biggest hassle is managing the tar strip and plastic liner behind the door panel to not tear plastic pulling it back out of the way and not getting that tar mess on much else.

The mastic they use on car doors is horrible stuff. I vaguely recall reading that it stiffens up a bit and becomes less sticky when it is really cold. So spray it with a "DustOff" can and it may be a little easier to remove the plastic. Problem is, the plastic liner will become more fragile when it is cold.

i went through jason at online mazda parts when the driver's side went dead on the wife's car

It's the motor in the actuator

Ok, so after doing about 30 mins worth of reading here on the forums about our actuators going out (my front driver's door went out about 3 weeks ago), I decided to take some action. I removed mine, but all the gears were intact (no teeth missing like some people), so I used a multimeter to check the connections. All was working normally. The meter was registering a 13-15 volt hit every time I hit the lock and unlock. The only logical thing to think at that time was that it was the motor. So I took it out and it was a Mabuchi brand, so I looked it up.
I consulted google and came upon this link:
http://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/237827-door-lock-actuator-replacement.html

Although the land cruiser and lexus don't have the same actuators, they have the same motor. One of the posts says that he took it apart (the motor itself) and the carbon bushings were wasted down to nothing. So I decided to do the same thing. The bushings weren't bad, but there was a lot of black dust in there, I'm assuming from the bushings getting ground down. I cleaned it all up and put it back together, and viola! it worked. Assembled it all back and everything's fine now. Works with the lock button and the keyless fob.

Just letting you know. If your actuator's dead and the cog gears are intact, then it's more than likely the motor. They're listed on ebay for about 10 bucks.
Here's the motor and model number. It's an exact replacement to the OEM one. Mabuchi part number is: fc-280pc-22125

Mine just crapped out today on the passenger side. When you try to lock or unlock it, it makes something like a "grinding" sound. Is this a similar sound you guys are having?

hey haven't checked this in a long time its been liek almost a year lol but I still have not found cheapies and the junkyards mostly wont let you take parts out of the doors because they want to sell them whole, but the search goes on....

Mine must be going out. Its hit or miss if I can unlock from the passenger side. One night they went crazy and locked and unlocked about 10 times in a row.

The Jaff:
If your door makes a grinding sound, most likely it's the plastic gear inside that is broken.
I have been looking for these parts for some hours already in several days and no luck yet.

I guess I am calling onlinemazdaparts.com and see if they have it or know where to find this.

no worries.....its going into a box of parts that I still have left over from my p5. If anyone reads this, PM me and see if I still have it! :D

Both of mine in the rear doors went out. I asked the local Stealership how much to fix just one, and they told me $50 for the actuator, and $200 to fix it.
