MS3 in April 2010 issue of Collectible Automobile

It's the subject of the "Future Collectibles" column. It's a pretty decent summary of the MS3's history, but the article does neglect to mention that the available paint colors changed with the intro of the '08.5 models. The bottom line is that the writers believe that the MS3 may very well become collectible- especially pristine original cars. Now, we all know that nobody buys an MS3 as an investment, but I thought it interesting nonetheless.

the MSP has become something of a collectable. the MS3 will probably achieve a similar status

But the MSP's were numbered and lmited production. The MS3 has been in production much longer than any other "Mazdaspeed" vehicle. I mean I'd love to see the MS3 achieve "collector" status, but I dont think it will happen.

I've always thought, this will be a car that is sought out in the future. Sorta like people seek out Nissan 240SX's and Toyota Supra's. Maybe this car doesn't compete on that level, but it truely is something unique.

It would be cool if the 1st gen MS3 becomes a sought after vehicle. Integra Type R comes to mind, too.

mid 09 I was seeing used 06 Mazdaspeed 6 prices about 4 grand lower then I see now. I'm in Canada. Maybe I looked at a bad time back then, maybe recession maybe nobody even knew or cared about a MS6 then...who knows.

That's only true of the cosmic blue. (lol2)

I second that!!! The ONLY unique MS3 will be the Cosmic Blue. It's the only color that was only used in the MS3. Even white, black, red, gray are used in the regular model. :)

How about Metro Gray? Was that an exclusive MS3 color?

Nope. I have seen sedans in Metro Gray. Funny but I remember an issue of Road&Track back in 2006 where they showed the MS3 and it was actually the Metro Gray... I loved that color! but when I saw the CB, I had to have it... especially being so unique. :)

I am not the biggest fan of the color, but it is definitely the most unqique. So for those who are, it's perfect.

All that love for my car and you can't even stand the color?!?! Or...have you been lying this entire time?

Hmmm, I would say CWP would be the rarest seeing as it was only in prod for 1-1.5 years.
I had to search high and low to get mine, and it was worth it.

i think ppl need to realize that the young ones who have this car are going to be the ones that make it a "collector" or something that will eventually be sought after. and this goes for any make, any model

baby boomers are reaching retirement age now, and take a look at what cars are highly sought after in today's market. they are the cars that the baby boomers had when they were first driving. as time progresses the models will change.

eventually, this generation's cars will be the most sought after cars and will fetch high dollar. just understand it in terms of "wanting your young adulthood back." some of the best memories ppl have is with their first car. and after they go through so many different cars and reach that age where they have lots of time and money, they are going to want to go back in memory to a time where they felt life was best

my wife's uncle invests in cars, and he focuses on corvettes. on a timeline the value of any specific model year vette goes from new value, down, then back up to another high point. right now he's focusing on early 90's because they are at their cheapest. but eventually the ppl who owned those cars early in life will want them back

i feel like that will happen to me with my old NB miata. loved that car, and it was the first fun car i had. it's getting cheaper and cheaper, but right now it's not a practical car for me and my family. so eventually, and this will happen, i'll want it back when the kid goes out of hte house and i (hopefully) have plenty of money and time. that's when the miata will probably have it's highest value

give the supra's and rx-7's some more time and to find one in good shape will be super expensive like classic cars from the late 60's and early 70's are now

if this translates into "holds value well" then i'm all for it....

i think this car offers a very different driving experience than a lot of other cars on the market (think cosworth vega, hehehe).... and i totally agree with oakland's comment. a lot of you younger guys will want a car like this again when you get those kids you haven't had yet out of the house.... life changes, priorities change, needs change. part of the game!

i have an opportunity to buy back the car i had in the glory days ('70SS nova, 350, 4-speed, dark green, beautiful)...... it's not the same car i had in high school and college, as it's been 100% restored to stock... frame off, not one dime spared.. it looks like the day mom and dad drove it home... incredible.

yes, it is worth a bunch of money now... you think i haven't been seriously thinking about it?

the fact that these cars aren't as prolific as some others, has to help... there just aren't that many MS3s out there.....

isn't it funny.... can you imagine two old gray dudes in a bidding war over a restored 2003 WRX or something?

history doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme! -mark twain

Never considered that it would be collectable but I do think it will be desirable for years to come. Its attractive inside and out, reliable, handles well and has tons of power. Considering the quantity of cars built these days, the MS3 is still a limited production car and I rarely see them on the road.
