ive seen this a few times and now cant find it....how does it go again?

I recently put in denzo ITV22 plugs and sometimes get sputtering in 5th and 6th...the whole point of me changing these was to smooth things out. I did not check the gap because everyone went on and on about how they come gapped at .32

I am now thinking of pulling them out and gapping them to see if it fixes the sputtering problem. What should they really be gapped at? Ive seen .32, .30 and .26...i dont have an ap, just an sri and turbo inlet. While i am in there I would like to do this spring stretch thing too to see if it helps. Thanks for your input!

You should always check the gap.

reach in the coils with a pair of needle nose pliers, and pull on the spring just be careful not to pull it too hard

Awesome, sounds easy enough. Should I stretch it til it sticks out the boot a little?

no I wouldn't go that far. if I remember correctly they are fairly stiff they may go that far when pulling, but will rebound back into the boot the idea isto make sure that they are making good contact with the plugs when installed

I thought you actually open the coil packs and then stretch the springs.
Where's the stickies when you need them?

LOL thats what I thought too which is why I asked how to do it...i would much rather stick a needle nose pliers in there, sounds way easier. So are we sure this is the way?

this is what i saw on SU website:

December 25, 2009 Reviewer: Chad Sparks from Glenpool, OK United States Put these on last night. Install was easy. Just pull tmic cover off, take out nuts off the tmic and rotate it to the side. Pull coil packs off, then plugs. I gapped mine at .30. Three off them were at that already, one was at .26. I've heard with an AP they need to be at .26 but I don't know. Lots of people say they run best at .30. Make sure you pull the boots off your coil packs and stretch out the spring inside them. Being sure to stretch them out on the ends more than the center. Make it about twice as long as it comes. This will make a big difference, allowing the spring to make contact with the plugs and will eliminate hesitation and overall give much better performance.

what are you confused about?

Sounds like the boot just pulls right off and you can access the springs directly. And +1 on only stretching the ends, not the center.

does the boot just pull right off? I dont remember what it looks like off hand, i did the swap back in august before parking it and heading out of town for a few months. I dont want to **** it up, I imagine those sp wires cost 300 easily from the dealer.

They are about 90 bucks each.

Sounds like they just pull off, i've never had to stretch mine. only takes a sec to pop one off and check it out.

if it pulls off, great do the stretch easily and focused on spring ends more than middle.

if it doesn't pull of easily, then just try to grab it with some needle nose.

You don't really have to stretch em a ton, just enough to assure good contact with the plug.

In fact, you could even take pictures and let us know which method you ended up doing :)
