235/40/18...Will they rub?

So, as the title says, I will be getting a set of RX-8's soon, and once I have finished restoring them, I will go ahead and get some 235/40/18's. My plan was to go with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus.

...so do you think I should have probs. with rubbing? My suspension setup is stock for now, but I plan on doing H&R coil-overs once I get a little money. Obviously, I cant go insane and drop the hell out of it, but like 1" all around would be nice.

It shouldn't on stock suspension with the stock RX8 rim offset. When you lower it a fender roll should take care of the rear rubbing problem. Might I ask why you want to do an all season tire?

contrary to popular belief, it does rain here in California, quite a bit during winter, and I need something versatile. My family has a house near Lake Tahoe, and we occasionally need an extra car to bring to the snow. Where it might not happen enough, it has happened before. Also, they seem to be a good solution because they are quiet, comfortable, and they are pretty sticky. My buddy has a set on his '04 Audi A4 which is dropped on KW's, and several other things like wheel ect... I want something stick, versatile, and comfortable, and has good tread life. These fit the bill. I dont want a repeat of the stock potenzas lol

I'm running RX-8's with 235/40 Nitto Invo tires. No rubbing at all in the rear during any kind of compression and only rub in the front barely when wheels are full lock. And if you end up getting the H&R coilovers, depending how low you are, you might rub in the rear. But you can always just roll your fenders.

what about 245's? hehe i want to go beefy for the spring/summer. i just want to know if i would be able to get away with that, with spacers or something idk. im a nooob help!

I can deal with that. I guess there is always a compromise when getting something that looks fu*king amazing. I'll probably end up rolling the rears anyways...

I just got a set of of rx8 rims myself and had the same question. I think we should be safe with 235s, according to what people have said on forums.

Cobb runs 255's! They must have mastered the offset game to do that!

damn thats sick. i wanna get 245's for spring/summer but im just not sure what i will have to do. like what offset and all that fun stuff. rolling fenders, im hoping i wouldnt have to do that though.

They may touch every now and then. I'm running 225/45s on RX-8s. They touch on driveway transitions, mostly.

Mike, are you rolled in the rear? I know that the rears probably aren't rubbing on driveways, that's probably the fronts, but I think that I might end up rolling the rears.

Nope, I've not rolled anything ('cept 15K miles yesterday ). The rears usually touch when both wheels drop off a driveway lip at the same time.

They ran 255's with 35 series tires on 18x8.5 wheels. I believe the offset was +50 or somewhere close to that. It's been a long time since I read about that. And a 255/35 tire is shorter than a 235/40 tire.
