short lenses aren't cheap, but the long lenses are WAY more expensive. look at any of the long canon primes. Huge money.

yeah, $1500 on one long lense is possible, but a 55-250 for $200 is too.
I'm talking quality (no 75-300, 18-55 non-is crap) entry level stuff here, not a full compliment of professional level equipment. A lot of you guys have to remember that some of us can't (others just choose not to) blow thousands on a hobby. If I was MAKING money shooting pics, I'd be a lot more likely to dish out some serious money. I don't see that happening, so while I won't buy junk, I'm not gonna go buy $1000 lenses.
I could have invested that kind of money in a dSLR (a little more since prices here are somewhat higher), but this year I wanna make a couple of trips 'round Europe. So for me it's an easy decison = PnS + trip

I totally respect that. For me, that discressionary spending either went to the car, or a camera. since the camera supports the car its almost one in the same, but... seeing as the car is half of what I shoot with the camera, I'm not gonna go spending a ton when I don't need to.I could have invested that kind of money in a dSLR (a little more since prices here are somewhat higher), but this year I wanna make a couple of trips 'round Europe. How does this one look? I was in M mode and I was playing with the shutter speed and aperture.

I was messing with the field depth and didnt have any thing to shoot but a Bargs can in front of me, but I think it was neat the way it turned out. Its not the best but I liked it.

Less expensive would be a better term to use than cheaper.
yeah except AF doesn't work on many of them, and Canons HD is far beyond Nikons
so not good reasons to buy Nikon
although I have nothing against themWell some thing with any older Canon lenses and both have great line ups both old and new. Plus, video still is to crappy on either system for me to even car a lick about it.
I prefer ergonomics and UI of Nikon. Plus the speedlight system is light years ahead of Canon so I see no reason to buy Canon. To each his own.

Canon vs Nikon..bah...we shouldn't be arguing about that in here. Both sides do the same thing we love, but they just do it differently in some cases.
Best way to find a camera that suits you is to know what you want to be shooting. Like lets' say you do a lot of sports. That means you want super fast focus, and AI, really good ISO at low light (because flash doesn't really work), and u don't really need video.
If you're gonna shoot weddings, you would want very good High ISO performance, and multiple focus points.
IF you're shooting mostly portraits and cars, your AF doesn't have to be as fast, since you are posing the subjects, and they don't move too much. You also don't really need high iso since you're probably going to be using strobes or studio lighting.

You don't need studio equipment to utilize wireless.
One speedlite and two transceivers is all that's needed. Once you start using flashes in daylight you will realize the limitations of your commander mode. With commander mode, you'll have line of sight and distance issues outdoors.

And the ebay radio triggers are pretty cheap to get. Even the AlienBee Cybersync triggers are cheap compared to pocket wizards.
