Top 20 Best-Selling Vehicles of 2009


There are a couple of interesting highlights, such as the Chevrolet Impala, which drops four spots from 2008 down to number 12 as its Bowtie sedan stablemate, the Malibu, jumps in at number 13. We also see the Toyota Prius at number 16, falling just shy of 150,000 units sold in 2009. Finally, note the GMC Sierra at number 18. Interestingly, when the Sierra's 111,842 sales are added to its Silverado sibling from Chevrolet, that platform outsells the Ford F-150 rather handily. As you'll soon see, though, Ford does indeed have the last laugh once all full-size truck sales are counted.

OH an btw, i spotted my first SVT Raptor F150 yesterday on Dalton Avenue parked outside the main post office building in Cincinnati, OH :)

LOOKS BADASS irl...and even the FORD blacked out grill looks pretty badass
 
what i dont get is why these full sized trucks keep on selling a ton year after year... do they break after one year that they have to be replaced evry year... do compaines pop up everywhere that theyll order a fleet....
 
I would think that fleet/federal sales would skew the numbers a bit. I wonder what strickly private party numbers would look like.
 
Guys, that's F series. So you are talking a crap load of pure work trucks like most of the 250, 350 and so on are.
Not to mention when you figure that most Americans own homes and need to maintain it, a truck makes a lot of sense. Not everyone has a dwelling where others are expected to maintain and update it for them. Form personal experience I can tell you a truck is a hell of a lot nicer to have for projects then an SUV or car.
Even if you do live in a condo, townhouse, or apartment; take a look at what your maintianence guys drive.

So by this statement I take it you moved to America?

Oh, and the stupid americans that buy these trucks that build this country. They are the ones that build your homes, stores, and roads. Trucks are multi purpose. They help feed the animals that you eat for dinner or in some cases help in planting the beans used for making the tofu that the other stupid americans eat.

Yes, I really HATE statements like yours.

No, they actually last a long time as far as miles go. Most fleet company's will only keep them for so many miles and then sell them and buy new ones. This helps keep maintenance cost down. That and they are fairly cheap. With the F150 Crew Cab selling for less then 25k you can trade it in after 2 years and still come out on top.
 
Learn about accounting for business and depreciation and you start to understand why lots of trucks are sold here every year. They also are nice to have for running personal items around, but businesses must eat up a HUGE portion of the sales.

I AM happy to see the fusion in there. That car really stepped up its game. I would LOVE to see a "true" performance version of that car with AWD/turbo and a special badge (SVT, RS, SHO) whatever. I'm not a real big fan of the $45,000 SHO taurus.
 
I'm an accountant and yes...it makes alot of sense...especially since anything over a certain weight qualifies for accelerated depreciation meaning you dont have to wait the entire life cycle of the vehicles to get the benefit...

think of it this way...Accelerated depreciation means you expense the truck in the first year...take that, include the warranty and lack of upkeep on a BRAND NEW TRUCK and the value of buying every year or two starts making alot of sense...

I'm just astonished that it's 400K+ thats a TON of trucks

the Fusion = Contour = SVT if you wanna keep the nastalgia of the badges... just a heads up :)

btw, 45K for that S-H-O isnt a bad deal if you think about it...

Chysler 300C AWD: 360HP 5.7L V8 = 42000 +options
Audi A6 AWD: 350HP 4.2L v8 = 59150 +options
BMW 550I (no awd) : 360HP 4.8L v8 = 60600 +options
Hyundai Genesis: 375HP v.6L v7 = 42000 fully loaded (only true head turner)

So yeah, 45K is reasonable...oh and go sit in one...they're sexy :)
