im upgrading to a fmic, and want the side mount out of the way. can i use a regular or p5 radiator in the place of the msp and not have heating issues?

the MSP rad is better (higher capacity and larger surface area) than the P5 radiator (taller and thicker, though not as wide).
I would suggest:

A) remove the SMIC and put in a blockoff plate

B) get a corksport rad (~$300?), or sign up for the new one which it looks like doc B is making ($250)

C) leave the SMIC as is and don't worry about it.

I went with option C...

then your option C is just as retarded.

you just leave the SMIC in place, so it holds the rad up and doesn't leave a gaping hole... and you change the plumbing over to use the FMIC.... keep up! (screwy)

SMIC physically installed, not functional:

I just had a bracket made to hold my radiator up. Why put a block off plate in?
I would think that w/o it you would just get more air flow into the engine bay. Couldnt hurt(dunno)

less air flow through the rad... i don't have any scientific evidence to prove it.. but I feel it would be better off cooling the coolant than blowing around the engine bay.

with out the block off plate the fan that is exposed to nothing will pull all of the air around the radiator since there will be less resistance because of the giant hole. This is why kits like the Hiboost FMIC came with a blockout plate and others tell you to upgrade the radiator.

More air into your engien bay dosent matter. As evil stated above the fan is going to pull air from a area that has less resistance. Hence why fans have shrouds. To force incoming air from one area and not from the sides. With the gap this would be the same as with the fan not having a shroud effectively not pulling air accross the coolant runners.

option c sounds good till i decide to upgrade the radiator. what fmic kit do u have?

im using the altered customs, i bought a j pipe from cx racing so i can do like u did on the hot pipe. i want to put the bov on the cold but havent figure how im goin do do the piping. id like to still keep my cia.

cutting a couple holes in the core support will allow that... its tight, but can be done... if you're rerouting all the piping you may as well save the money and go with the ebay kit instead of jen's.

i was just looking to do the cold side. i already have the kit. im just looking at how im gonna do the bov and maf on that side. i was told 8 inches between maf and bov
