not sure if this is the right section but if not, can a mod move to the appropriate.

the shift knob options are pretty slim so far from what i've come across. only one's ive seen are TWM's and they are pretty pricey as we all no. more options and prices would be nice. anyone have some links?

nearly any shift knob with an M10x1.25 threadpitch will fit... after that its just a question of what fits your styling. I woulda gone with the interior section for this BTW...

i guess ill hit google with that thread pitch. as far as the section i figured here because its part of the trans, but if a mod feels differently please move it

i just sent a message to passwordjdm which is primarily a honda company but offer an attractive shift knob. i suggested a 10x1.25 thread pitch, which will fit our shifters as well as some nissans. i hope they take the suggestion since they offer nissan products as well

Moved for ya.

There are a few options, like Wagon said, anything with the correct pitch works. AutoExe has the CF knob, TWM offers a bunch, and Cobb has the Cobb Knob available. Aside from that, Sparco, Momo, and some of the other knob makers should have some options.

should be as simple as buying a tap and a drill bit... and adding it to their catalog. I don't see why they wouldn't...

you could always go this route too:

I am looking at getting a late-model Miata knob. My wife has managed to scar up the trim ring on mine, and it is a little hot in the summer. The Miata one has the correct 6-speed pattern and it is all leather.

thanks and i thought cobb were still in the decision process of making them for the ms6 and in different color options, i voted and replied to the thread on here

yes i know that but it could be that they already have say 1000 already made and aren't going to make anymore untapped let alone tapped, until they sell a significant amount.
that looks like a miniature screw driver handle?

if a knob uses set screws to attach it to the shifter, that will work as well..

and yes, that used to be a racheting snap-on stubby screwdriver... I dare anybody to find a more comfortable shift knob for extreme temps, or one that is more comfortable and easy to palm shift.

i know i had one of them on my integra it was a cheapy my dad bought for me thinking i would like it lol
im really intrigued by that snap on though, how is it secured?

I bought a nylon collar at the hardware store that was roughly the right outer diameter and drilled and tapped it to fit the shifter (this is why the size and threadpitch are "off the top of my head knowledge"..lol) the bottom plate of the shifter is the ratchet selector and is held on by a snap ring.. so that went on first, then the nylon collar, then the top, and the snap ring.
I've considered gluing it together so that its a one-piece operation, but the collar is an interference fit, so it only rotates with some force applied, and due to the length of the collar, there is about 1/8" of vertical play if I lift up on the handle..

FYI kudakev (A P5 owner on here) has a full-length snap on screwdriver for a shift knob as well. personally I like mine better because it fits your hand like a shifter is supposed to, and like I said, comfort in hand... I don't know if you could beat.

what do you mean by nylon collar? sorry if thats a dumb question, ill prob kick myself when i see it.
im trying to think of what i could fill into it then tap into it. as crazy as this sounds, may be some mold or (for lack of a better word) play-doh

I keep hoping to come across a black and white leather knob, but that one is a close second. What year Miatas were those made, and how much $ would it set me back from a dealer?

maybe I should use the word bushing?

pic is worth a thousand words.

i've read your directions a few times and may be ill need everything in front of me to understand it. but what im figuring is that the bushing collar shuold fit snug enough (with some assistant) that it wont move. and i can just grab the screw drive handle and slowly turn it on so it becomes threaded as i put it on.
would that work?

if you have enough space between the shift knob and the shifter that you could fit in it there tapped both inside and outside... sure..

I just doubt you'll be that lucky. mine is a threaded on fit on the inside... and just a slip-fit on the outside.

ohhhh! i though it was smooth on the inside and out of that bushing/collar.

it was until I drilled and tapped it to the appropriate size on the inside. (cost of bushing: .68 cost of drill bit and tap: $14.... LOL)
