MS CAI 2009 Models

Just looking for some info on the MS CAI's for 2009 speeds. I know that they are pending due to some sort of CARB cert but have not heard anything else. My Mazda guy said that I could get one for a 2008 which is the same part and install but it would not be covered ander warranty.

So I'm not quite sure if he meant the warranty for the car of for the CAI. I'm getting a little impatient waiting but I don't want to void any warranties. I could care less really about a warranty for a $250 intake if thats the case.
Any suggestions???

It takes 45 minutes to install it your first time. If you need to visit the dealer . . . swap the stock airbox back in.

My dealer said nothing of my Cobb SRI when it was in for service. Check with your dealer prior to going in to see what their position is on mods. Some are OK, some not.

IIRC, the updated CAI was released a few months back for the third time w/Green Warranty. They're being sold online for $305 shipped.

Most techs will know if an intake has been installed on the car, espcially with the inner splash shield removed. I'm not saying it's going to be an issue; I've had an MSCAI on my 09 for 13K with no problems.

Last I heard the 09 was still pending CARB approval. You could always follow up with Jason who coordinates www.onlinemazdaparts.com. He should have the latest info (in addition to decent prices).

My dealer was completely cool with me having a CAI.(Injen) I've even had some decently expensive warranty work done.
The service adviser said he usually recommends them as an up-sell if a speed doesn't already have one in it.

weird...i was following the mscai very, very closely since it was released, cancelled, re-released, re-cancelled, then finally re-re-released...which is when i picked one up

this was mid august, and it came with the air straightener (which was the only real problem). and i haven't had any problems with it so far. and i mean the main problems ppl say happen like a CEL or sucking up water. im still not sure what these ppl are doing to suck water up these things

Thanks guys...I was able to order an MS CAI today here locally in AZ. Apparently my dealer still has no clue on the re-release yet. I'm picking it up tomorrow and hopefully installing myself early next week!

Any installations tips from you guys that have installed your own?

don't do it at dusk like i did (ended up putting like 5 flashlights all around me, which in turn attracted the mosquitos that bit up my legs while under the car and unable to swat at them)....all because my non-patience ass couldn't wait to do it till morning

i would try to remove the front driverside wheel as well.

but really just follow the instructions it comes with and you will do fine

Start early. :)

To do it right, following the instructions, it takes a few hours. You have to remove the front driver's side tire, lower splash shields, foglight connectors, ambient temp sensor and front bumper cover - all in order to access the inner splash shield that sits right behind the driver's side headlight. Most DIY'ers just rip it out though.

Sounds like a nightmare! Will make sure I have plenty of daylight. I think this Monday will be the day. Thanks evryone for the tips

Dont need to do any of this

I believe the MS instructions indicate to remove the bumper, but I'll check next weekend when I clean the filter. I guess if your hands were small enough, it's possible to reach through the driver's side fender liner and up/around the outer shield. You'd be unscrewing a couple bolts completely blind though. So unless you had seen it done before, I'd imagine it would be a bit challenging without ripping the plastic apart. The shield prevents reaching the bolts topside.

In any case, for those who haven't done it, here's a good write-up from Injen on what's involved to remove the inner splash shield (bumper off or not). Check figures 20-24:

Well, I installed the MSCAI yesterday morning. Was not too bad at all. Took me 3 1/2 hrs to complete...no bumper removal necessary:)

Car is even more amazing to drive and really has a noticeable acceleration kick.
