2010 speed 3 faster than 08

ok so ive owned my 08 speed for about 6 months now and just recently my dad bought a 2010, long story short this weekend i ended up driving his car, and as i was driving i noticed that his car seemed to pull quite a bit harder than mine, but very similar to mine when i first got it. my question is, is this just in my head and im used to mine? or has anyone else driven a 2010 speed and noticed this as well. it was so dramatic when i got back i was cheakin for boost leaks and such in my car

Weren't the tranny gear ratios changed for 2010 to take better advantage of the powerband ? Could this be contributing to your perception of 'faster' ?

ya they were from what i could tell very little though shifting at 3k im at about the same mph, im thinking maby they changed the gas petal or something so maybe im just pushing down farther idono haha

Lol you didn't even hit boost and your drawing conclusion ???

Specs are the same but the gear ratios might help a little.

It could just be in your head. A new car is always nicer to drive. Plus, the new MS3 weighs like 150 lbs more than the previous model. But as stated, the gearing is different so it could change the drive a little.

i made sure the boost gauge worked lol i just said that for the gearing comment, had no idea how fast and easily the car hits 10+psi

ya im hoping it was just in my head because that would suck if my dads car was faster, looks like its time to start modding haha

Boost temps are probably a good 10-15 degrees lower on the 10' as opposed to the 09' because of the hood scoop, air is forced through the IC more directly. Anything that makes the car more efficient will add performance.

when i test drove a 2010 i could be in 6th at 60mph and put my foot slightly down and the boost gauge would go to 15psi, i think its a gimmick. The speed is probably all in your head though. you could start modding yours anyway.

Everyone keeps spouting off about how the gearing is different and blah blah blah. They also put shorter tires on the '10 cars which effectively nullify the gearing changes. They still require a shift to 3rd to hit 60 mph.

It probably works on the same principle as the stock boost guage in the DSM's. Not with an actuall MAP sensor relaying information but using airflow through the MAF to infer boost pressures.

Seem like most publications that reviewed the 2010 MS3 rated it slower from 0-60 than the older generation, so maybe it's in your head?

Alot of things have changed.. gearing being one of those. Also with your car being "older"
check for boost leek, these cars are known for that. Are you monitoring your boost levels?

Just a new car and a little tighter. My car is 2 years old with 36k on it and when I drive a couple of my friends cars, 08.5's with less than or around 10k on them they feel a little torquier but we all run right next to each other. Just the feel of the car. Seats are harder/tighter, gears are tighter, clutch harder and throttle maybe a little easier to get on. If you have a DH you could run some 0-60 times in both and monitor boost in each gear at same RPM's and then look at what gear you are in to acheive either in both cars...
