today i noticed a strange grinding noise from my car =(
it drove fine at first then i parked for about 30 min and when i went to reverse out of the parking lot i started hearing a load grinding noise. i stopped and looked under my car, there was nothing dragging. so i continued to reverse and the noise was still there. i drove around the parking lot and still the grinding noise continued. This continued to happen for about 5 min. then it just went away. whats that about??

my gf has a mazda3 and she also experienced this about 4 months ago, same exact noise..what could this be??

also if i drive for a long period of time, my car starts squeaking every time i'm accelerating from a stop. then goes away.

please guys help me out.

do you have a warranty? if so, use it.

If not, dnt know what to say. usualy if a noise starts, it wont stop unless something is totally screwed up or fell off.

and id make sure your belt is good, also another warranty issue is possibly tensioner is bad

I had that grinding noise come once too, couldnt figure it out... went away after about literally 15 seconds and hasnt come back. It only happened when the car was moving... sounded like it came from the passenger side tire, and occured on flat ground, in a parkinglot with no suspension compression. I would like to speculate that it came from the brakes... but I am not sure.

I'm sure it will come back one day.

I had this happen a few times. I think it was the brakes sticking causing the noise.

I'd suspect either a sticking brake caliper or a grinding CV joint (drive axle). Brake caliper would be more likely, I would think. CV joint would be far more persistent, brake caliper could easily be quite intermittent.

The grinding noise could have been something stuck in the dust shield of the brakes. Happened to me, I picked up a piece of loose tar pebble and it was a grinding noise when going really slow but wedged itself in there good and was a terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible stretching noise. But just bent back dust shield a tiny bit and it dropped out and haven't had the problem since.

Happened to me too the 2nd night that I had my Speed3. I remember the dealer saying that the new brake pads can grab in wet weather and drag a little bit at low speeds (or something to that effect). After a little bit of driving and a breaking in the brakes it hasn't happened since. I believe I drove in reverse and performed "spirited braking" to free up the pads.

Oh yeah, it was raining heavily that night.

a grinding CV joint (drive axle)

Sorry for the thread jack, but since this was mentioned, I'm left wondering if this could be the cause of the grinding (for lack of a better term) sound I'm hearing when I'm turn left (never happens when I turn right) over slightly uneven surfaces.

i that this happened its the steering shaft or something like that i woul have to look

Was it very cold when you noticed that sound? My car does the same when it is below freezing. I could have swore I was dragging something underneath the car too. It is a benign issue with the suspension bushings that Mazda is aware of, and goes away after the car warms up.
