High-Flow Cat question

Hey guys. I've decided to purchase an AP in the next couple of months, and also want to pair that with a downpipe. Cobb and CPE's are a little expensive for me, but I also want to make sure I have at least one cat still in my exhaust. I live in Jersey, and just don't want to have to worry come inspection time of failing. So I'm looking to get the Corksport DP, seems to be a good deal. Would it make more sense to buy their testpipe as well and just have an exhaust shop weld in a high flow cat? OR, just put in a high flow cat to replace the stock one? I'm hoping the latter would be a better choice(less money), but I figured I would let people more knowledgeable of such matters to chime in.

Yeah you're right. Only problem it jumps the price up to 350 bucks. ouch! An extra 200 bucks for a cat doesn't make sense to me.

I bought a Magnaflow high flow cat from performance peddler for 60 bucks and cut and welded it into my CorkSport test pipe. Works great.

Good to know. Do you think it would work on the stock pipe? Trying to avoid spending an extra 150 bucks.

i bought a pypes highflow mini cat and it costs me i think 50 bucks shipped. its open ended on either end though so you would need it welded in. i cant see a shop charging you much more than 50 bucks to chop and weld it in. if its more than that thats rediculous. its such an easy install.

Do they visually inspect in NJ?? Or do they simply plug you in and read for codes/do a tailpipe sniffer test?

If they do a visual inspection, you will likely fail if you change to ANYTHING not 100% OEM...

Hmm good question. I honestly have no clue. In the past when my previous cars were being inspected it never looked like anyone looked under the car, so I'll assume no. But I might be wrong.

The stock cat is much larger than the Magnaflow. But if you can weld/fabracate anything is possable. You would have to add some pipe.
