Mazda CX9 Rear Camera Broken off

(five-0)peter,did that scum who touch your baby, did he mess up your rear wing too? you have pics.

Hmm, it looks like the ribbon cable connects to a circuit board or connector in the part that is still in the tailgate finisher. The 4 cables I was mentioning are in the connector that is in tailgate. I've attached pictures. It's hard to believe that Mazda would make a different camera for the Nav vs the Mirror. It would seem to be a waste of money to do that (but who knows? heh). If the cable in the tailgate is the same as attached pictures, you should be able to replace just the camera or get a 3rd party one.

The rear finisher was damaged where the camera was. I guess he used something to pry the camera off. However, it's not that noticable because it located on the bottom. Regardless, I know it's there so it bothers me.

Thanks again for you pics. The camera has 6 connectors so I believe both the Mirrored vs Navi have different cameras. Hence, the huge price difference.

Peter, that absolutely sucks! I feel for you! I thought about that happening after seeing how much the camera sticks out (seems like more than other cars' cameras).

Now I know it does happen... another reason to be paranoid about my baby!

The camera cannot be stolen in one piece from outside. Most likely it would be damaged like what happened in your case. After a few tries, the thieves will give up on that idea. After all, a broken camera will get them $0.
I would worry more about the HID bulbs than anything else.

Peter - did you get it fixed at the dealer?

My friend was visiting me this christmas in NYC and had similar incident. Someone brought a circular saw, cut the panel and stole the camera. He was parked in Union Square area in a well lit street. The dealer has quoted him $873 for the part.
