Anyone purchased a new 09 recently?

I was originally shopping in August and decided that I wanted to sell my truck outright instead of trading it in.

At that time I had a price of $20,960 + TT&L.

Now they are telling me that the dealer incentives have been moved off of the 3 and onto the 6s and 9s.

The best price they will offer me is 21,456 + TT&L. Take into consideration that they added $250 to the $500 rebate that was available then and we're talking about $750 higher price than before.

Its been 3 fricken months and they still have TEN 2009s in stock! What the hell is going on!?!

My truck is sold as of Saturday. This is really upsetting. I figured I could get another $500 or so off by waiting 3 months.

Sounds like it's time to play hardball. Was this "best price" what you got after hours of negotiating, or was it just the first "best price" they quoted you via phone or e-mail?

If I were looking to drive them down on cars which are "obsolete" due to a new model on the showroom floor, I'd go find a salesman & go for a test drive. Then sit & talk turkey. But here's the key--- you have to be 110% ready to walk out without the car that day. If you want to pay $20k flat, make $19k your first offer & tell the salesman to go fight it out with his manager.

If they eventually come down to your $20k goal, you win. If not, be polite, thank them for their time, let them know that you're disappointed, and go home. Just make sure they have your phone number first. Because once you've done a test drive & tied up a salesman for a couple of hours dickering over options & prices, etc., they will take you far more seriously. And they may very well call you a few days later with a much sweeter offer. But you have to play hard to get & let them do the calling.

If possible, I'd also play several local dealerships against one another on price, if that is possible in your area.

solid advise...I got my 2009 ms3 GT for 20,650 about 9 months ago. The dealer was a volume dealer and they make money pushing out the most cars vs most dealers where the money is in the used cars actrully. Anyways yes fight for what you think is fair and be respectful. i remember when I was going for this 2002 mittsubishi galant. it was early 2004..so car was about 2 years old and sticker price was 15000 at the time and the the book price was 14500..I got it down to 10900 @ 4.9 interest...it took a few hours but I got r done :)

sounds like they are playing a game. Plus I wouldn't think many people will be buying an MS3 in winter, so use that to your advantage.., they need to sell those cars. keep in mind you are going to need to spend $750ish on winter tires unless you are on the west coast or wherever those nice weather places are. :)

for kicks though I would check Edmunds.com and see exactly what the Dealer Incentives are for the ms3.

(iagree) what he said. use the internet to yr advantage, pit them against each other. i just can't figure out why, if the dealer has 10 1st gen cars on the lot, they wouldn't deal. that sounds like a lot of cars to carry in inventory, ties up a loooot of $.

time to play hardabll. (chair)(chair)

They will be forced to get them off the lot before the end of the year. Tell them you will give $20,500 for a Sport or 22,000 for a GT and talk to the manager not the sales guy. Give them your # and tell them to call you if they want to move a car. At the end of the month they need to meet a sales quota and will sell you a car. I never talked to a sales guy but instead dealt with the internet guy. I never went to a dealer until I got the price I wanted over the phone. I had three different dealers pitted against each other and kept each updatted as to the lowest price quoted so far. Once I was told by one dealer that they could not go any lower and after thanking them and hanging up they called me back less than 30 mins later and dropped their price another $500. I had to drive 3 hours one way to get the best deal but it was worth $500 to me. I ended up paying $21,033 + TTL for a new 2008 Sport back in Feb 2008 and at the time that was a great deal. People have bought them since for $20,000.
