I know that the MSP didnt come with a sunroof, but wondering did the MP3? There is a MP3 for sale near here and the pics clearly show a sunroof, kinda looks weird, and if i were to get it i dont want to deal with a leaky after market sun roof.

here is the pic:

thank you for the info, that car gets nexted in my search

not a problem. i worked at a dealer a while back and we had one put into a mazda6...yeah, that was the biggest f-up i had ever seen...the sheet metal was dented all around the glass, the wiring was horrible and it never worked correctly, etc.

good luck in your search!

It was an option, but you had to have the mazda dealership install it. I was looking to buy an MSP a couple years ago and the had one installed. Was pretty nice actually..

it wasn't an option from the factory. a dealer can paint your car a different color as an 'option' if you'd like.

I was just stating that its probably not aftermarket.... But its almost impossible to know unless you can talk to the previous owner or the dealership that did it

if it is 'dealer installed,' it probably isn't a mazda oem moonroof for a protege and it was done in their bodyshop. dealer-installed options usually do not require cutting the body panels and they're OEM parts. to put together an OEM moonroof would be extremely expensive. i highly doubt anyone would pay for it...it's going to be aftermarket.

I think I saw that same MP3 for sale when I was in the market for one. Say no to aftermarket sunroof installations.. no matter who did them.

Hmm, taking a look at the part diagram, it shouldn't be too technically difficult to install a moonroof. The roof panel would have to be removed (is it welded or bolted in?), and a sunroof roof panel would have to be installed.

welded. the usual and customary way is to cut the factory roof and headliner.

It is not even call "option", they just customize for you. Like all MP3 are made the same, if you will willing to pay them good money, they just bring the car to a shop and cut the roof and install the moonroof for you. Nothing money can't do. But it is not a original manufactured equipped.

My MSP has a Giant Webasto installed (Finish Line, Cleveland OH $1,400.00) and its awesome. It also has 4 drain tubes that go all the way thru the floorboards and drain below the car. A leak would be impossible. I open it every single day unless the temp is below 35 degrees.
