300-HP, AWD Mazdaspeed3 Shelved, But for Good Reason?

You can have an EVO X GSR for less than 30k which has a far more advanced AWD system than anything Mazda has. Base STI is about 35k, the 40k model has more options and again the AWD system the sti uses is far more advanced.

The base price for the current MS3 is about 25k already. Adding AWD and more power would add to the price pretty significantly.

oh i know that, hell you can get a base evo X for 25 + ttl from what i've read for an 08.

but not counting major discounts for year or two year old stock, i am going by msrp for msrp
which would be 33k for evo, and 35kish for sti with various packages making it more.

I can see Mazda upgrading to a 2.5 whenever they do the mid-cycle change.

Why would they change it? Especially mid-cycle? I can't see a benefit in that unless you just like to say its bigger. Like I said before, they would have to develop a direct injection system for it and its not something you drop money into unless there's something majorly wrong with it or it has some big competition breathing down its neck.

wouldn't be that hard, the direct injection components are all in the head. since it's the same block, just bored and stroked to be 200cc bigger, im sure the DI heads would fit on it. then it's all up to tuning

yall seem to be forgetting that theres more pressure to build efficient cars, so i highly doubt a 2.5l turbo anytime soon considering their 2.3l turbo dishes out enough HP for their cars

there are corvettes that get just as good or better gas mileage than our car

Thats because of their incredible power to weight ratio and when just cruising in 6th at hwy speeds. However, I guarantee when flogged the corvette consumes plenty of fuel. More power means more fuel, more fuel means lower mpg.

Whats supposed to be next on the speed line? I think I read that its supposed to be the mx-5. could be untrue though

That all depends... more power can decrease the engine load on acceleration. Desiels for instance get better mpg with a ship and a crap more hp and trq to boot. However you do have a point if you just flog it around for the hell of it sure it will eat gas.

doubt it, they axed the mazdaspeed miata from the last thing i read.

they are riding out the ms3 for all it's worth it looks like, so no other new mazdaspeed vehicle anytime soon i am betting

i would strip everything from my car now and take my car tomorrow and buy a new AWD speed3. no doubt. look how competitive these cars are already with the sti evo gang. sub 30k for an AWD speed3 would be amazing.

They don`t need to go bigger, they just need to go stronger so the aftermarket can do its thing without having to open up the motor.

(shocked) What the hooey are you talking about? Not calling you a liar or anything like that, but I have never heard of this. I've been considering acquiring an EVO X GSR, and would love to know how you came across this information.

EDIT: Are you referring to new or used?
