Rear bumper guard - Faulty for a Mazda 5??

Hello,
Anyone have problems with the rear bumper guard lifting at the edges???? This is the second time it has started to fall off.(3 weeks old) Installed from the dealer. Curious if there has been a bonding problem or to put a different style on. Let me know

Sounds like your dealer didn't prep the surface properly. It uses 3m tape to hold it in place and if there is wax or dust on the bumper it wont hold. I installed mine by following the included instructions and have no problems even in 100+ Florida heat.

Same here. I put mine on right after I bought my Mazda5 six months ago - before I even waxed it for the first time. It's holding on just fine.

All good here with an 08 that we've had on the road over 1.5 years. The guard kit gives you alcohol swabs to clean the surface and remove wax. Sounds like they didn't prep the surface correctly.

You can use a clay bar kit to remove all the wax and clean it very well, and then put a new 3m double face tape to hold it back

I've ordered from this place (Montgomery Mazda) with great service, as well as the place I linked to (Med Center Mazda in Pelham, Alabama) - also great service. You can't go wrong with either place.

Just shop around, see who has the lower price for the items you want and remember that Med Center Mazda has free shipping on orders over $100 and Montgomery Mazda has free shipping on orders over $125.

Ya my dealer had to take a couple whacks at getting ours to stay put.

Mine's Cool. I just cleaned the surface with alcohol first.

Goo Gone is your friend...

Soak the old one with Goo Gone, slowly peal it off...

Then clean the living piss out of the area with MORE Goo Gone, wait 3 min to dry.

Next wash the surface, with soap and water, TWICE, and dry it off with a lint free cloth, wait 3 min...

Apply new one...

Then wax the crap out of it with a paste wax, let the wax get into the cracks, groves, around it etc.

DO NOT use a tooth brush to get the wax out of the cracks... leave that wax all the way around it for a month or so, that allows the tape to 'set in' and STAY DRY,

make sure to put that part of the car in direct sunlight for a few days during that time...

30 days later, wash and wax as normal, and this time you CAN clean the wax out of the groves. etc.
