turbo whistle

if you're looking for turbo whistle like an evo or sti, you won't get it from the ms3. mazda deliberately engineered it to be nearly silent, and it is easily drowned out by the stock airbox let alone an aftermarket intake.

thanks guys :)

like i said, i was just wondering why there is no whistle. i'm not gonna go buy something just to make it noticable ;)

Maybe talking about the actual turbo mechanics making noise and not the air being sucked in... I'm not familiar with what loud "turbo whistle" is.

I was thinking that by "turbo whistle" He meant spool up sound... so we all know for a fact that an aftermarket intake will provide that, and an inlet even more. If you mean an ambient whistle from the turbo like you get with a catless exhaust? Then there ya go... a catless exhaust.

I don't understand.

If you haven't owned (or been around) many turbo cars, you may not be familiar with the 'turbo whine' sound. It sounds nothing like intake noise. It's a high pitched whine that increases in frequency with the speed of the turbine/compressor.

The OP was talking about turbo whine, not induction noise.

Are you OK? Any problems with reading comprehension?

No he wasn't f-stick. He was asking about whistle (Not whine) which could be taken for intake noise as the turbo is spoiling. It’s obvious you fail at comprehension

No, "whilstle" and "whine" can be used interchangeably in this context.
He can't hear the turbo because it is quiet, unlike some other turbos.
It's as simple as that.

No, now you’re just making up s*** to cover up for your stupidity. You can hear the turbo spool as it is sucking in air (Hence the word "whilstle" not "whine" like a supercharger). No one but you brought up "whine" It's as simple as that, get over it.

Where was the word "whine" mentioned in this statement?

hi all :)

how come the speed3 has no turbo-whistle? or is there something wrong with my car lol. i've had the speed for about four months now, you can "feel" the turbo kicking in, but there is absolutely no turbo whistle.

not that i need to hear the whistle or anything, i was just wondering

its the difference between a huge single turbo supra that hurts ur ears wen spoolin up next to ya and the tiny ms3 turbo that u cant hear hardly at all!

^^

That and the fact that the know-it-alls actually think intake noise is the same as the mechanical turbine whistle.

Intake noise = vacuum cleaner sounds
Turbo whistle = WEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Supercharger whine = WEEEEEEEEEEE!! (lower pitched)

I get that sound when my car is spoiling...

1) Turbo don't spoil. Fruit and vegetables do.

2) Do a google search of "turbo whine". Lots of people have whining turbos. You can use the word "whistle" if you prefer but "whine" is a more accurate description of the sound.

3) Stop with the childish name calling and grow up.

At least someone knows the difference between turbo whine and induction noise.

Here is one good example:

Note that the whining sound has nothing to do with the intake/compressor side of the turbo. Rather, it is produced by the turbine (exhaust) side.
