Problem with my HID light after installation

not sure if this is normal or a problem but...
my HID kit includes 2 bulbs, 2 ballasts and 1 relay harness (didnt use it)

i installed 55W 5000k HID into my 09 speed 3 sport yesterday and i found the lights weird.

Right when i turn on the switch, it instantly goes from max light to lower light but gradually getting brighter and brighter to the max again. i think it takes about 5 seconds. Is this normal or did i screwed up my wiring? or something wrong with the bulbs? should i use relay harness???

another thing is it seems my lights are shooting kinda low on the ground. how do i adjust that? is there a place in the headlamp where i can use my screwdriver to adjust it?

thx

that's normal. the aim of the headlights shouldn't have been off if you just put hid's in. typically the aim is off when people retrofit and take apart the projector housing and s***.

so it is normal to flick a max light and goes down and up again? well, cant complain cuz this is my 1st HID lights... :p

im not sure if my aim is off or not, but i will post a video later tonite. My driver side's light is about 1 inch lower than the other side. maybe i need to screw better on my headlamps...

takes a bit for them to heat up to temp. alls good. now install some HID fogs and you'll be even more happy with you're output.

in your owners manual there should be a sections about aiming your headlights. im not sure if the aiming mechanism is different looking or in a different spot in the sport (i have a gt) but i think it should still be a white plastic phillips head screw somewhere behind the light housing. do it on level ground against a flat light color surface (like a garage door) and you should be good. it's also better to aim the drivers beam a little lower than the passenger, that way you won't blind other drivers

there may be a couple days of adjustment so you can test out the cutoff line height and if its right for your application, convenience, performance

and xenons naturally do that, they are kinda like florescent bulbs. it takes a lot of voltage to jump the gap and arc between the electrodes inside the bulb (since there's no filament like a halogen), but after that it doesn't take much power to keep it lit. so the initial lightup will be a bright flash, then a little lower light until the xenon gas warms up to proper temp

p.s...you might want to check out another thread here somewhere about retrofitting a new projector lens that is even more clear and allows sharper/brighter light output that will make your new lights even better

This is almost in work for me and my HID's. Dang ground shipping.

i checked my driver side's lamp and has the white plastic phillips head screw but not the passenger side. it is about the same but in steel metal type. ill try to adjust it tonite.

thx guys

if you own the MS3 Sport model like me, u CANT re-aim the lamps.... only the GT models can re-aim...

I too have that white screw thingy on the drivers side and nothing on the passenger side.

the aim height of the MS3 lights are too low in my opinion, as well as others here.

that's weird, they should both be white plastic

you have both white plastics on both sides?

the white plastic adjusted my height on the driver side but the passenger side's metal thing only adjust the high beam. weird... might need to ask the dealership for it...

if driver's side is a little lower than passenger, that also sounds normal....it's like that so the light is lower for oncoming drivers.

i have seen HID lights before but never owned one. before I only had white halogen white bulb in my civic... (blah)

i adjusted the height and looked better now. wonder if it is kinda high now lol.

loving the brightness!!

I have a sport also, and had to adjust my headlights after a HID and halos install. You can use a phillips screwdriver with the white adjuster on the driver's side, and on the passenger side, i used a socket on the metal adjusting bolt...it does work.
